Color me surprised...
When retired Air Force pilot Mike Ross learned this month that the Navy aviator who shot him down is on a nomination list for the rank of admiral, he had a visceral reaction.

Although pulling a ton of G's in front of a crowd isn't exactly the point of flying, it's a shame that the USAF doesn't quite get what motivates people to join.

It's fantastic that Tops In Blue will continue to suck up tax dollars, but little kids at airshows won't have a high AOA pass, or sonic doughnut emblazoned in their memory. I doubt anyone raises their right hand based off a bad rendition of a Barbara Streisand show-tune...

Perhaps I'm getting old and the sight of an A-10 wrenching a level turn around the infield, or an F-16 muscle-climbing from a near stop to 10k' isn't that impressive anymore. But, jaded old me still stopped to watch when our local demo pilot was practicing, and I'm pretty sure every soul-containing being within in sight of his show did too.
The Air Force intends to sponsor only one of its six single-ship air demonstration teams for the 2012 season, the F-22, as the service grapples with budget cuts and limited resources.

I left Afghanistan shortly before this occurred and had heard of the JTAC (SrA Brad Smith) being killed. I didn't know the ROMAD's story; it's, to say the absolute least, incredible...

Unfortunately google+ pages do not allow for multiple admin support. My intent is for any past or present FAC(A) to be able to post personal stories or opinions on this page. I think google is headed in this direction, and once there we will be able to write things for public consumption or for fellow FAC(A)'s to reference.

Word of mouth will hopefully form this page into something useful to those of us lucky enough to know this mission.

The Light Air Support (LAS) aircraft is the most interesting Air Force acquisition in recent history. From the near approval of the Super Tucano to the widening of the field to the Texan II (and rumors abound about the OV-10X!). This is the latest:

This is an older article. Combined with the above, it looks as though the Super Tucano is the only remaining contender:

Won't it be fantastic when bureaucracy stops fucking this away and dudes on the ground actually get to see real effects?
It's Texan versus Tucano, take two, and the embarrassed Air Force has got to get it right this time. With all the claims, counter-claims, and rumors

"Going forward, we project Iraq to be one of the largest military markets in the Middle East, behind Saudi Arabia and alongside Israel, Iran and the UAE."

-Dan Darling, Middle East defence analyst at the Connecticut-based Forecast International, an aerospace and defence market research company,
As the United States withdraws the last of its 50,000 troops after a nearly nine-year military occupation of Iraq, visiting Iraqi President Nuri al-Maliki had one final request: billions of dollars wo...

I had not heard of this until today. It sounds like SrA Henry did a phenomenal job.
