OUR PEOPLE

Roman Baber is the Firm’s lead litigator with extensive trial and appellate experience. Although Roman’s primary practice consists of civil litigation, he maintains a steady stream of complicated commercial disputes.

After winning a headline making nomination in January 2017, Roman became the Progressive Conservative Party’s Candidate for York Centre in the 2018 Provincial Election. The Firm is proud of Roman’s accomplishment and wishes him success in becoming a Member of the Legislature.
Shortly after his admission to the Ontario Bar in 2006, Roman joined a prestigious national Bay Street law firm. He later transitioned from Bay Street to Main Street and developed a cutting-edge litigation practice, assisting individuals and organizations through complex matters. Roman is fluent in Russian and Hebrew and has a keen interest in current events and public policy. He holds a law degree from Western and a B.A. from York University.

Roman appeared on numerous noteworthy trials and appeals, generating significant headlines in the legal community. A few of those include:

In January 2016, Roman won a four week jury trial in a case focusing on causation and calculation of future income capacity. The Plaintiff fell down a set of stairs four months after a car accident, causing a heel fracture. The jury accepted Roman’s argument that a concussion sustained in the car accident caused the fall down the stairs four months later and awarded the Plaintiff over $800,000 in damages.
In late 2014, Roman obtained judgment against Lloyd Banks, a member of 50 Cent’s G-Unit Group, in connection with an assault perpetrated by Lloyd Banks against a music promoter following a 2010 concert in Waterloo, Ontario. Judgment has now been obtained in New York.
In early 2014, Roman argued a five week trial on the Commercial List, successfully defending a well known Toronto family against allegations of accounting & bank fraud levied by the Royal Bank of Canada.
In 2012 Roman agued an infamous Court of Appeal matter, involving the interpretation of the Insurance Act (Ontario) and the requirement to mediate an Accident Benefit claim before commencement of legal proceedings. Although the Appeal was allowed on factual basis, the Court accepted Roman’s legal argument that mediation is deemed failed 60 days after application for mediation. It is widely believed that the Cornie/Younis appeals led to the termination of the Financial Services Commission’s administration of accident benefit claims.
Feel free to contact Roman at 416-514- 0123 ext. 508 or email him at rbaber@inslaw.ca
