Has anyone had any experience using a north american uninterruptible power supply in UY? I have 2 for my computer equip (yes I have a lot) and was hoping that using a transformer to drop the voltage will allow me to use the UPSs. The difference is the 60Hz vs 50Hz issue. Searching the web on this subject is an invitation to be buried in useless info.

- Not me. But Mark Mercer probably would know. If he's still snowed under with his other projects, Carlos Ferrandis who is a member of the Facebook Uruguay Expats group could probably help you. Carlos and I had discussed the 60 Hz equipment with 50 Hz power issue but with something that had a fan (upshot is it probably would overheat since the the fan is going 16.67% slower*). But I don't know if a UPS has a fan or if it's an inherently sensitive device.
*My solution was to buy a compressor here designed for 220v 50 Hz.36w
- Mark MercerOwnerI really gotta buy a UPS. 😀
Sorry, haven't been using one here, native 230V/50Hz nor US-std 115V/60Hz.
There might be a heating issue in the UPS' own transformer, from the slower cycle swing +/0/- if it were really cheaply spec'd as barely adequate for 60Hz. But maybe not.36w
- Found one. Tripp Lite (Costco.ca). Works at 90-150V and 50/60Hz. Transformer->UPS->computer equip = some degree of confidence. I have terabytes of photos (I'm an amateur) on multiple hard drives backed up at least 3 times and don't want to lose them in a power glich. My two 8-year old APC models only work at 60Hz.33w
