BIASES

All of us have them. And if we're unaware, they can really commit us to make bad decisions.

This infographic neatly summarizes them.

FIFTY ONE GOVERNMENTS

Say what you will about the U.S. but the union of the 50 states is a piece of work. States have a lot of power to govern themselves through their individual state governments. The union of these states is the federal government. The U.S., politically speaking, consists of 51 governments -- one large federal government and 50 different state governments.

Colorado legalized pot commerce within its borders. Two neighboring states sued Colorado because Colorado legalized pot. Colorado is fighting back. The battleground is the third branch of government: the Judiciary. What a battle royale! That's what this article is about.

States are free to legalize marijuana, Colorado argued Friday in a filing to the U.S. Supreme Court in response to a lawsuit from neighboring states that have asked the nation's highest court to shut down Colorado's pot law.

Colorado said that Nebraska and Oklahoma should sue the federal government for not enforcing the Controlled Substances Act, not other states. Colorado said the states' "quarrel is not with Colorado but with the federal government's" approach to letting states experiment with pot law.

I am going to take up the manly sport of spearfishing. I recently purchased the following in New York: a JBL speargun (model name Elite Custom), a diver's knife, and an ubercool mesh bag that can be carried either as a duffel or backpacked. I tested my speargun on land and then yesterday, in the sea. It was okay but my actions were definitely tentative. At one point I was going to target a black urchin (which has no value for humans) but I stopped. I felt I had to make an offering to the god of the sea. Is that weird? Below is a link to one of the best in the manly sport of spearfishing.
