It's a cool concept, but largely impractical.  Especially, like you say, requiring a projector.  But as an idea, it's solid, and might pave the way to better things.
 
Off topic, but +Paul Tassi I remember that I circled you due to your not-so-glaring review of Google+ a while back.. I've noticed that you've been using it a bit. Have you published any other reviews after using it for a while?
 
As for me, it doesn't look tempting at all. The out-of-tv image looks blurred, with dull colors, and is deformed by the furniture. Would be better off with just a projector and a blank, white wall, with no tv at all. The image would be uniform, at least.
