.I am going to ask a favor and BEG you to please SIGN and SHARE this petition for reform at NY ACC, a VERY HIGH KILL shelter. Less than 7000 signatures when over 40,000 are needed. They release an album of dogs/cats in the evening around 5 pm , close at 8pm and start killing at 6am... that window alone is a big problem, among many others... Here is a face ..a beautiful face, like all the others, gone but not forgotten! Please help stop the needless slaughter at NYC ACC xoxox

These four animal companions are looking for loving homes. To learn more about our adoption process visit www.pasadenahumane.org/adopt.

A362717 –Trump is an eight-month-old Great Dane mix. He’s a sweet, playful puppy with the cutest floppy ears! He’s been out on our Mobile Unit and was a favorite among our volunteers and staff. His adoption fee is $125.

A362818 –Jazz is a one-year-two-month-old Chocolate Point Siamese. He can be shy at first, but warms up quickly. He loves to rolling around on his back while playing with toys. He’d do well in a quiet home.

A362302 –Bobo is a one-year-old fawn rabbit. He’s very friendly and enjoys sitting in laps. His adoption fee is $30.

A362231 –is Princess a mellow, 15-year-old gray tabby. She's enjoys sitting in laps and sunbathing in our Communal Cat Room, where she gets along very well with her roommates. Princess' regular adoption fee is $70; however, she qualifies for our Seniors for Seniors program in which her adoption fee is waived for eligible adopters.

The adoption fee includes the animal’s spay/neuter surgery, a microchip, the first set of vaccinations, as well as a free follow-up health check at a participating vet. New adopters will receive complimentary health and wellness exam from VCA Animal Hospitals. Ask an adoptions counselor for more information during your visit.

08/29/2014 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: One look into those laughing puppy eyes and you can see Blue is anything but! He was once the baby of his family, brought home at just 6 weeks old, nicely cared for, agreeably trained and apparently well-loved. Then one day a cute new human baby arrived on the scene. But hey, no big deal, right? After all, Blue is a dog-loving, people-loving and even kitten-loving (!!!) kinda guy and he'd never been anything but friendly to strangers and children. Well, it turns out the family's new arrival is a very big deal for Blue. Instead of teaching him the ins and outs of living with a tiny person so the two babies could grow up together, this innocent youngster is no longer welcome because his resume doesn't include 'experience with babies' - a pretty tough call for a one year old puppy! But what's done is done, Blue isn't going to dwell on the past and just like his fellow orphan Annie, he lives for tomorrow. Greeting the world with a winning smile and a wagging tail, so handsome in his ebony-n-ivory coat and extremely sociable, especially when it comes to his fellow dogs, Blue truly is everything you could want in a pet. He's a good walker and seems quite house trained, taking care of all his business minutes after we hit the street. The only time he pulls strongly on leash is to be near other dogs and when I hold him back he whines pitifully - but Moooom, I just wanna play! Blue sits politely for treats or a tennis ball, we're told he knows commands for 'lie down' and 'give paw' and he's a great athlete who's shown no guarding issues and allows me to take the ball right from his mouth with zero complaints. Blue is young and playful so if you're worried about handling his high energy levels I'll let you in on a little secret...put Blue and a tennis ball in a dog run and you can literally wind him up (throw that ball) and watch him go go go! He's quite happy to entertain himself, picking the ball up, tossing it around, kicking it from one end of the yard to the other and finally settling down to munch on his fuzzy little prize, happy and content for me to ruffle his ears or rub his side as he chews. Bouncing baby Blue is already neutered and ready to leave immediately so don't wait - welcome home your very own little bundle of joy today!

08/25/2014 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION - EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Blue lived in his previous home for almost one year with four adults. His previous owners reported that he gets along with children and strangers. Blue alks nicely on leash and his previous owners reported that he is housetrained. He approached the assessor with a soft body and tail wagging at spine level before jumping on the assessor. Blue was active and jumpy during the handling items of the assessment; however he maintained soft body language. He frequently grabbed the leash and was would not settle, making positioning for the handling items difficult. Blue would not stop grabbing the leash after the tag item so the squeeze item was omitted. He approached the helper dog with forward, but soft body language during the dog-to-dog interaction. Blue began to whine while focused on the helper dog as the assessor walked him out of the room. His previous owners stated that he is friendly with unknown dogs and kittens. Blue is active and may be difficult to manage when on leash. The behavior department recommends that he go to an experienced home that is prepared to use positive reinforcement training to work on the leash behavior. It is also recommended that he go to a home without young children. Older children may be considered pending an interaction and specific counseling. Look: 3 Dog jumps on the Assessor, mouths the leash, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2 Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor's hand, with loose body and open mouth. Tag: 1 Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft 'popping' of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Food: 2 Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1 Minimal interest. Dog may smell or lick toy, and then turn away. Rawhide: 1 Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish rawhide to you. Dog-to-dog: 2 Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward. Helper: A092488

Teaching of the Masters

Throughout the ages people have felt the need to believe in a Supreme Being or Power or God. They feel that life and all of nature are a mystery and cannot be understood by our rationality. Science has given us many answers about the physical aspects of the world, and is probing into the universe. But science has not answered the basic human urge to know or understand who we truly are, if we remove our labels of name, race, caste, culture, religion and professions. Once these are removed we do not have an identity, and cannot properly relate to others in a meaningful way. Yet we do exist. So who are we? It is to find answers to this and related questions that people have the need to turn to a Supreme Power that holds the secret of the universe with all of us in it.

Our senses are limited and our eyes can perceive only a small band of visible light in the huge electromagnetic spectrum. We cannot see beyond ultra-violet and infrared wavelengths, yet a large spectrum of wavelengths are on either side of visible light. The same limitation holds for the other sense organs. So how do we get knowledge of attributes such as the soul, the mind, God, Spirit, Self, Maya, Life Force, liberation, bondage, and similar questions relating to life and the cosmos? It is difficult or impossible for us to teach ourselves so that we can truly understand Reality in which everything else exists. But there is an inner unexpressed need to understand more of ourselves, and the world and the universe. Ultimately, we have a need to know God. To fill this need to know ourselves and have some inkling of what God is, spiritual masters have come in our midst over the ages to enlighten us.

We are made up of the body, mind, intellect and soul. The body is made up entirely of earthly material. From conception, the embryo takes up substances from the food and drink of the mother. The food and drink are of the earth. The embryo grows to the fetus, then to the newborn, all the time taking in earthly material. During the rest of life for growth and maintenance of the body, a person ingests things produced from the earth. At death the body returns to earth. Another being takes up the materials the same way, so there is a continuous recycling of earthly matter in all beings. So the body is not reality. The mind is both conscious and subconscious as is commonly known. The conscious mind functions from moment to moment and not continuously. The subconscious mind functions mostly as storage for memory, feelings, attitudes, hang-ups, and other personality traits. But the mind can be put to rest by a hypnotist, or in dreamless sleep, in coma or under surgical anesthesia. Can the mind then be said to have reality? The same can be said of the intellect which cannot function under these circumstances. Both the mind and intellect can go haywire by the ego, and passions of anger, greed, lust and so forth. What then is the basis for our dear life and all of its attributes – both positive and negative? Do we deserve to seek further knowledge, or are we content to drift along the river of life, facing stresses, depressions, anxieties, violence, frustrations and all the other problems we are familiar with? Is there any way of understanding life so that we can enjoy love, peace, harmony, brotherhood, self-empowerment, and other positive attributes?

Answers to these pertinent questions are available if we truly seek. We need to find the basis or the “ground” on which existence depends, and how we can “adjust’ our thinking and understanding to make our life sublime. We need to free the mind from accumulated static dogmas, doctrines and practices, and be open to the Universal Spirit that has no boundaries.
