Did you know it's World Nutella Day? Do you find the prospect of limiting your chocolate-hazelnut devotion to a single day absurd? Should we celebrate it anyway? YES. I vote for starting the day with Nutella-filled homemade pop tarts, afternoon snacking with banana and salted pistachio popsicles (http://goo.gl/Q4WJ8W) and finishing it out with chocolate-hazelnut linzer hearts (http://goo.gl/FMokAt). The day demands it, after all.

Favorite home-cooked date night meal? Unquestionably: this. Mussels steam open in wine, shallots and butter (swoon) while fries roast in the oven. With a good baguette and a green salad, the whole meal is quick, luxurious, inexpensive and won't leave you longing for a nap. Lucky you!

New recipe, Charred Cauliflower Quesadillas: Here to solve your Monday night dinner dilemma is our new favorite excuse to eat grilled cheese. Just grown-up enough with seared cauliflower, charred poblanos, scallions and lime juice, recipes are also included for the prettiest, laziest taco slaw and cumin-lime crema. Hooray!

New recipe, Fried Egg Salad: Remember the Crispy Egg (http://goo.gl/ByBCr2)? This is the next chapter, an "egg salad" so far from the stuff of curry-mayo nightmares, well, it's basically in Northern Thailand. Shattery clouds of molten eggs. Sizzling lime juice, chile and garlic dressing. Let's be obsessed together.

New tip, Make Your Own Vanilla Extract: Everything you need to know to not only save money on vanilla extract but make the most ridiculously potent, intensely steeped bottle of coffee-colored extract you have ever had the good fortune to take a whiff of. There's no going back to store-bought after this.

If you haven't yet experienced the magic of Marcella Hazan's three-ingredient tomato sauce, there is no time like a cold and overcast January day. Still on the fence? One of the ingredients is butter. You're welcome.

New recipe, Key Lime Pie: Do you know what the exact opposite of a biting cold/windy sleeting January day is? Luminous rays of tropical sunshine packaged in the form of citrus fruit. Key lime pie one of my favorite celebrations of it: astoundingly easy to make; something I always forget I'm craving, but perfectly hits the spot.

New recipe, Butterscotch Pudding: Old-school. Ludicrously easy to make. Toasty, rich, faintly buttery brown sugar caramel stretched into a pudding that's not, unlike most butterscotch desserts, tooth-achingly sweet, this butterscotch pudding -- plus, a coconut butterscotch pudding variation -- is something of a midwinter miracle.

There are SEVENTY cookie recipes in the Smitten Kitchen archives. This means I have ostensibly spent 25% of a year of my life doing nothing but baking cookies, which means I must be doing something right. You only need three great ones to make the holiday. May I recommend some Austrian Raspberry Shortbread, Seven-Layer Rainbow Cookies and Chocolate Hazelnut (ahem, Nutella) Linzers to start?
