Haven't used Mono for quite some time, but this is a great way to still be informed about the roadmap and future developments ;-)

Canonical Unveils Strategy Of Reminding People Of Apple In Everything They Do

LONDON, UK - After great expectations that had a remarkable similarity to the ones preceding a WWDC, Canonical unveiled its ambitious plan of being criticized for copying Apple on technical aspects and business aspects simultaneously.

"Our mission", Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth says, "is to make something extraordinary. Something that has never existed before. One criticism for all kinds of presence: design, development, sales, and marketing. Canonical is the first company to aim for complete convergence of that whole range. Nobody else brings technical criticism and business criticism together so seamlessly."

"In design", he remembers, "we were accused of copying the global menu. In development, of using lock-in libraries. Anyone who has actually used an Apple product knows that Ubuntu is different - often worse - but the accusations of copying felt good. We felt more relevant because of them. So we really wanted to find other fields where they could be successfully extended.

Proving to be more than just words, the South-African entrepreneur also revealed the first product directly related to this plan: a long marketing video where he suspiciously speaks like Steve Jobs for more than fifteen minutes. Complete with words like "magic", "awesome", and "brilliant", the video shows that Canonical is clearly wasting no efforts in raising its own Reality Distortion Field.

"Oh, I'm no stranger to buzzwords," Shuttleworth laughs. "Anyone who reads my blog is very well-aware of that."

It remains to be seen whether this strategy will succeed or not. But by observing Twitter, which is pretty much the only research that most of us tech journalists do, we suspect that a new cult is being born.

But when questioned about the absence of a turtleneck, he is incisive. "Absolutely not. We don't want to copy, just be accused of copying."
