Anderson's Hill Winery, where I went on a small bus trip last Sunday. The wintery landscape was lovely. If you zoom in on the little knoll next to the dam you might be able to see two kangaroos that were hopping about nervously as lots of humans arrived at the winery to drink and be loud! This is located in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia.

One of the quietest and best public health achievements I have come across. Guinea worms OUT!

My friend +Tan Morgan is beginning a study of dolphin "language" and I was trying to find some references that might broaden the horizon.
First I thought of the Chinese language where concepts written as symbols don't really have a grammar as speakers of Romance languages might have- then the sounds are quite different to the written forms as well, with register/pitch playing a vital role.
Then there is the idea that signs, symbols, signifiers and signified might have different dimensions for dolphins than in semiotics for human lanaguages (try visual-memory.co.uk/daniel/Documents/S4B/sem02.html). On the other hand, bird calls seem to have a grammar where sounds have to occur in certain patterns before they convey the required bird-meaning- only recently discovered after centuries of study. (Try http://news.discovery.com/animals/finches-songs-grammar-110627.htm).

When I studied nonverbal/pre verbal communication in autistic kids I could only make sense of what they were doing by coding their whole body movements (turning around), arm-hand movements, gaze (and direction on a gross scale), sounds etc. Then it was easier to understand how tuned in each child was compared to another with things like pointing or understanding what a pointing gesture meant.
Any idea on what to code for dolphins??

I had this mad dream that (Australian) Medicare Locals would employ people to co-ordinate care across sectors and arrange specialist appointments, pathology testing, physiotherapy, home care etc. This utopia also involved electronic communications amongst GPs, specialists and patients monitored by the co ordinators, plus links to the Medicare "pot of annual services" to keep an eye on $$, evaluation and potential crises. And we still have virtually no big GP clinics attached to Emergency departments. WTF?
