Stickybot: Amazing Robotic Gecko

A Stickybot is a state-of-the-art robotic lizard that can scale smooth surfaces like walls and windows with the ease of Spiderman.

The Pentagon hopes to someday use the gecko-inspired device as a "spy in the sky" to watch over enemy territory.

Today on "Good Morning America," the robot's creator, Sangabae Kim, joined the anchors around the watercooler to talk about his amazing new invention.

According to Kim, the gecko can climb almost any surface, fast. For example, it can climb glass surfaces at about a meter per second using an incredible feature on the bottom of its toe covered in nano-scale hairs.

The technology is called "directional adhesive stock" and is meant to imitate real gecko hair.

Stickybot has been featured in National Geographic. You can learn more about Stickybot's technology; http://www.stanford.edu/~sangbae/Stickybot.htm

Cardboard Bikes:

Transportation trends have been making ground-breaking twists and turn ever since mankind has been confronted by the need to look for alternative fuel sources and adopt a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. Similarly, there has been a growing shift towards coming up with individual transportation means that are both efficient and economical for moving around the heavily congested urban areas.

But one Israeli inventor has dreamed up such a transportation innovation that is a perfect combination of all these characteristics; and has a potential to make revolutionary waves in the world of transportation. Fifty-year-old, Izhar Gafni has re-imagined the classic form of the bicycle by developing a cheaper, greener, lighter, stronger and socially-beneficial prototype that is made entirely out of cardboard, called the ‘Alfa’.

INVISIBLE HELMETS:
Hövding is a cutting edge urban bicycle helmet which is fashionable, high tech and very practical. Designed as a airbag within a collar worn around the neck, the helmet will deploy itself instantaneously in an accident, by sensors in Hövding’s brain. After having spent 7 years in research and development, the Swedish team have gathered data on the movement patterns of a large number of cyclists in every day situations. Re-enacting all of known bicycle accidents and movement patterns, and staged fatal accidents with crash dummies.

Regenerating Brain Cells

Researchers have found a common diabetes drug able to regenerate brain cells.

The Canadian study shows that the drug metformin, commonly used to target a specific pathway in liver cells for the treatment of diabetes, was able to divide cells and create new ones in the brain.

Medical Daily reported that those mice treated with metofrmin formed new memories faster than the others, suggesting brain cell creation.

They also found that the drug nearly doubled the number of new neurons produced by stem cells compared to what had occured in the brains of the control mice.
