November 15th is National Philanthropy Day. Are you involved with a nonprofit as a leader, board member, volunteer or supporter? Heres something you should know: Nonprofits of all sizes can cultivate a planned giving program to grow and flourish for generations to come.

Don't be so quick to overlook this gem of a fundraiser - planned giving.

Veterans Day is special for many reasons: first, I’m the spouse of a veteran; second, this is an opportunity to say thank you to those who served, and; lastly, we honor veterans today and always.

Over the years of working with folks from all walks of life, I am still captivated by the human spirit when it comes to: assets, family and philanthropy. Which flavor fits your life and legacy: vanilla, chocolate or strawberry? You may be surprised.

As a child, my folks instilled in me the importance of giving back. It doesn’t mean that making a monetary donation is the only way to share with others. Giving back can also be accomplished by using your gifts and talents to inform and inspire.

Since this is the season of thanksgiving, I am grateful for all of the acts of kindness that have come my way over the years.

Tis the season of giving thanks and giving back: volunteer, make donations, name a #nonprofit as a beneficiary (insurance, 401k) #PlannedGiving

Thankful for another November! As I look forward to the days ahead, plans for an upcoming presentation come to mind. I am grateful to have a passion that keeps me energized and excited to share information with others. What are you thankful for this season?

The number of folks affected by Alzheimer's is soaring. Caregivers face challenges dealing with their health and well being. We have to support family and friends who are dealing with this monster of a disease, especially caregivers.

This story, I know all too well. I was a caregiver for a loved one a few years ago. The experience left me drained physically and emotionally. It's a journey that many of us will go through as Alzheimer's continues to wreak havoc. Although research continues, there is no cure or way to prevent this disease.

A few things can be done to lessen the difficulties that families and caregivers may face. Advance planning - get your estate planning documents in place, especially the basics: Will, Power of Attorney and Advance Medical Directive. Some folks may need more documents depending on their particular situation. Consult with an estate planning attorney.

On Saturday, 11/04/17, (12:40pm-1:40pm), I'm presenting a 'Legal Planning' session: Join us for this FREE event - the 13th Annual Pythias A. and Virginia I. Jones African American Community Forum on Memory Loss hosted by the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Maryland Chapter: 8:00am - 2:30pm, Coppin State Univ. Registration required:

Nonprofits that are looking to create a lasting legacy of giving can start a planned giving program even if they are small and have a few staff members.

Your organization’s supporters and donors want to give - they should be given several options (including planned giving ideas) to make a gift to their favorite charity/nonprofit.

Do not shy away from this topic. If your organization does, it is missing out on maximizing gifts that could help sustain and grow your organization for generations to come.
