Facebook's recent open-source data stores: TAO and F4
TAO - Distributed memory cache for social graph (I guess companies with 2 billion users can't stick the whole social graph in a few GB of RAM :)
F4 - Media storage. Interestingly they distinguish by "hot" (recently created and therefore in heavy use) and "warm" media. (A bit like AWS's glacial storage, which would naturally be "cold" on this spectrum.) F4 is the "warm" store. In contrast to the "hot" Haystack store, it doesn't need to be optimised for fast replacements.
