May 2016
Hey, y’all!
When I first got the idea of building Nashville Side Streets studio, I had been watching videos of Norman Blake, the excellent writer and musician and Nancy, his extremely talented wife, perform live videos from, I believe, the 70’s and 80’s.
They were shot in a studio that was set up like the front room of a house with furniture, etc. He and his wife played their original songs and instrumentals and told their stories of how the songs were written. It was a very homey atmosphere.
I had thought about building our studio and bringing in extraordinary unsigned talent but I was also going to present some of my own music I had written and performed over the years and also new material and do videos of those as well.
Well, we got so busy presenting talent from all over the US and beyond that my music got put off into the background. It’s now time to put together some videos of my own material, nothing fancy, just myself and some of my talented Nashville buddies from time to time.
I’ve been here in Nashville for 26 years, and it is my home. I have always loved the family of people here and I want to give my music back freely now and let anyone who wants to listen, enjoy my stories of life.
Nancy, my wife and co-producer and I will be putting up songs and stories for your viewing and listening pleasure. We really appreciate all the support you have given us on our show and be watching for our new videos of my music soon.

These “United” States

I found this definition in Google for the word united.. “agreed; in harmony”. I have been trying to figure out for quite a while, what happened to the harmony of the people in these United States. We seem to have gotten off track with all the hyper-sensitive media that has been thrown at us. My wife and I recently got to put together a video of a song I wrote, called “Back In 68". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0jshp0nmE8
It has been 50 years, and my wife did some digging on the net looking for clips, from that era, to put a video together, of what the world was like 50 years ago. Now I had forgotten the huge uprising, worldwide, against the Vietnam War and I had forgotten all of the terrible backlash of feelings over segregation etc. There were many other things I remembered as we were putting this video together.
The ground that we stand on today would not be ours to inhabit if blood had not been shed on it to keep it that way. So my question is, if we have one of the best countries in the world, then why are we not trying to work together as people to keep it that way? The word UNITED again appears in my mind. I saw in 1968 where the world was in an uprising over many issues and today we are in the same boat, except now we seem to have more dissention within our own government and they are the ones in charge of keeping this country of ours safe.
Reflection upon the people who voted them in office does not seem to be of much concern, but to make a name for themselves through media blasting, does.
I personally don’t agree with any war but it seems inevitable that we will fight each other because we cannot become “United” as a world. We are seriously in debt to all vets of every war here in the U.S. because they have given most all of us the chance to have as much freedom as we have. So please try to encourage our government to get along and not be so self-absorbed, so the decisions they make will reflect more of the true feelings of the people who voted them in office, and if they don’t, VOTE THEM OUT.
Remember: shedding blood seems to be a very strange way to keep peace!!!

“Let your kids be all that is yet to be”

Lately I have had a rash of young people in my life who have opened my eyes to a growing problem of teenage depression and perfectionism. Recently a friend in music, who I have worked with for years, told me of his daughter of a tender 15 years who has perfectionism and severe depression because of this problem. I know another who does not and cannot cope with our everyday world without help from some form of prescription or depression meds. Now I realize some forms of these problems are genetic and the drugs help them to cope and exist in what we call “a normal world” but I also believe we are putting too much pressure on our young to perform beyond their capabilities so the world will consider them, quote un-quote, normal. I have lived 67 years and I have dealt with thousands of people, young and old, in this world and have come to the conclusion that some people need a little nudge to gain more strength towards what might be their goal but there are others who should be left alone and not pushed so they can find their own path, of least resistance, to a goal that might just not be what their friends and family think it should be. I am a musician and I have been playing pro since I was 23. Music is my life and I have worked hard to make it show that hard work and perseverance pay off. I also have come to the conclusion that music has nothing to do with the industry of music and the people involved in that industry, and if I would have let it, it would have consumed me and destroyed the beautiful gift I have been given. I believe everyone has a lot of gifts in their life that they can pursue and I also believe most people are not utilizing the gifts which have been given to them. I just think it is time to change the thinking patterns of our youth to let them know that whatever path they choose, it’s alright and you can always change up, if need be, and fill your heart with peace from another path you may choose later. Once you have peace in your heart, your life will stride with you and you will be more content. Not what everyone else thinks you should be but what you want to be, is most important. All of you young people who want to see what has happened to your classmates after a few years: go to a reunion and stand back and remember the ones who told you that you were nuts and you stood out like a sore thumb like I did, and think about the path you have chosen, whether it made you happy or filled you with anxiety and see if the path they chose made them happy and content. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn’t, because music was in my spirit from birth and I realize how important my folks input was because it gave me the nudges I needed to pursue my dreams. Remember, your children are the founders of all that is yet to be……… RD

Well I thought that I would update our progress on moving our show to another facility. We are still in the process of stripping the house of it's contents and we are downsizing both homes to accommodate more space. The studio was set up in Nancy, my wifes home. It took almost a year and a half to design the room and install all the equipment.. We ran the show for almost 6 years before we decided to sell the house, mostly because it is a sellers market here and 85 to 100 people a day are moving in here looking for homes. We have had great success with the show and all the equipment will be set up in a new room soon. Music has been my whole life since I started professionally when I was 23, and actually way before that. Nashville has been a great place for my wife and I to be. I have had so many great adventures here and have and still do work with the best and I have no regrets. Life has thrown some curves but I feel extremely blessed and I know that new adventures are on the horizon. I pray that all of you out there are well and happy .I have a new song and video coming out soon called, "Back In 68".. Watch for it and we will be updating our progress from time to time. Our day in Nashville is beautiful so I am going out there and exercise and take advantage of it... Lots of new music coming soon..... Ronnie and Nancy

Integrity

I have tried for a long time now to try and let a person who I am very close to and a person whom I love, realize the importance of the word Integrity. It is something that I see more lacking these days than any other human factor that is developed. From what I can see, it is caused from everyone copping out to their own insincerity. Each person has to deal with life as they see fit but when it comes to doing the right thing, people seem to think only of how they are affected by the decisions that they make and very seldom, if any, how maybe they have altered someone else’s life in a very negative way. I will not put up with this and I will stand up every time and ask why. Most of the time I get that they know no better than to think of themselves first. I guess the answer will always lie inside of the heart of each individual as to why they cannot humble themselves when they are in the wrong. Words are only words but how you express them makes all the difference in the world. When a lack of feeling is injected into an apology, everyone knows except the one that gives it. So think before opening your mouth and try to give some emotion towards a failing art that in reality would stop many wars from happening if utilized each and every day.

Perspective
My outlook and perspective on life is changing each and every day. I have become discouraged with a lot of life over the years, mostly what people will do to each other for money and greed. I look around though and I see good in people as well. There are many that help others and many that LIVE TO GIVE and that gives me hope to keep trying to do better in my own life. If you let it happen, you can become sick with worry over the state of affairs as the world presents it, but if you keep in mind that this is all just temporary and it will be in the past tomorrow, it truly puts a different outlook, or as you would say perspective, in your life. Surround yourself with positive minded people and give back whenever you can and your physical and mental health will be in a lot better shape. Don’t let circumstances or people drag you into a pit that you can’t get out of because you will pass from this earth angry and full of hate and then you will not have experienced the true gift of life, LOVE and FRIENDSHIP.
