just got done shooting the truck after getting parts back from my friend that does powder coating. the lowers are probably going to see a lot of rock rash, so i'm just wondering how tough it will be. it helps that the truck is under 4 lbs, but rock rash is rock rash. 

overall i'm super happy with the result, the links and spreaders look like i could have robbed them off a kit truck, and after things like my axle adapters, wheel spreaders, and vp hubs are also powdered it should really come together. 

i'm going to paint the motor can instead of powder, the bake temp is too high and to my knowledge, you cannot remove the stator from the gen 1 tekins. so that is going to get blasted and then painted with deere muffler black. the motor clamp may get painted as well, just a lot of surfaces that would be a pain to mask.

doing some fiddling with video editing. last time i did any modification to a video was on a vhs tape in middle school, so this was a but of a learning curve. it is still raining daily here (closing in on a month now....) so no more recent videos. hoping to get pictures up tomorrow of the new 7950 (thanks to hitec for being awesome on product support!) and may do a little wander around video of the rig.

Rock Crawlers  - 
 
shaved panther leopards next to shaved hb sedonas. the panthers are still 6 grams heavier than the sedonas, but they have not been ran or had the tread modified in any way. the foams are both crawler innovations 5.25 closed cell double deuces in pretty much the exact same setup. sedonas are on narrowed wraith wheels (.800 ish) and the leopards are on my TAG 8 rotor carbon wheels. 

now the reason for doing this is isn't all about weight reduction, that's pretty much a happy side effect of a close shave. the crawler innovations foams are very tune-able. the sidewalls on many tires are both lugged and different thickness from the rest of the carcass. having a more uniform carcass allows the foam to do the work in supporting the tire, and makes for way easier foam tuning and increase in tire flex. un-shaved, the sedonas were not easy to get hard bite with. now they wad up, much like a 1:1 drag tire. results are a harder bite and a tire that consistently get traction. with use of dig, i can wad the front tires up on an obstacle, then release the dig and drag they rear up very easily. 

another thing are side lugs. i'm not a fan of them on comp crawlers, especially in the rear. rear side lugs tend to get hung up in rock, resulting in problems such as traction rollover, reverses, and throwing the truck off line. all not good. so getting rid of the side lugs helps immensely in high traction rock with a lot of murder holes and ledges.

some quick testing video, the truck is performing well, i do have more tuning ahead. since this video, there's been a ton of rain, so testing has been delayed. mounted up a set of panther leopards on the TAG carbon fiber wheels for tuning, and blew up the savox servo, so switching to a hitec 7950. hopefully the weather lets up soon, can't wait to get back out there with the new tires and see what happens!

and posers of the rig with the sedonas mounted on narrowed wraith wheels. i know i have 2 tires mounted backwards from where i normally run them, i'm not concerned, there is no traction difference at this point. also, i am can get messy with glue, the wheels were cheap, and the tires are starting to get holes. if i rip the hexes out on the first run, plan is to do a vp hub mod on some de borrego wheels. 

when the leopards get here, i'll mount them up to the TAG 8 rotors for foam tuning. also going to shave the sidewalls and maybe cut on the tread of those.

overkillrc phoenix, my design. this one was hand cut by my teammate in belgium to run 3.5" shocks, which is why i'm running 13mm internal limiters (going to get some true 3.5 shocks soon). and i built it around lcc/lnc parts, not an adaption of an ax-10 chassis, works well for me.

some of these are repeat ones, but from the photo shoot just after i mounted the panthers up. i've been plagued by both heavy rain and servo issues (check your bec output every once and a while with a multimeter. enough said there) so still have not run the rig on the leopards. the new servo is on the way from hitec (7950th) and have been playing with the steering arms. ordered some killer but cost effecive 6061 6mm extended zero ackerman arms from rcbros, along with a set of their really sweet servo clamps. the rc bros arms allowed me to clear up the really bad angle on the drag link, probably going to order another set up for the back side of the arms if they hole up nicely. i currently have 2 arms per knuckle mounted, one a vp stock and the other an rcbros piece. needed a little more front weight, so why not use they parts i have. 

also, pictures were taken with a new camera, still figuring out the settings, that is why some pictures are nearly identical.

a few pictures with the leopards mounted. only clipped the side lugs, and only a 10g per tire gain over my heavily modded sedonas. compound also feels a bit softer, good thing with how light i'm running it.

I haven't weighed mine but its definitely super light, is guess 4.5-5 lbs, I'm gonna look into those tuning foam for sure

as requested, a picture of the truck while cooling the steering servo between runs. the leopards are going to be mounted to the pictured wheels, the sedonas are now mounted on narrowed wraith wheels, i'll try to get more pictures and video up this week.
