Beautifully location, very peaceful, but unfortunately this hotel suffers from the rip off tax, once they have you in, they feel it their duty to overcharge you. Adding 21% plus $5 to a $10 bagel when in room, plus charging you $15 for using the internet, despite paying $300+ per night. It's a shame these hotels feel the necessity to behave like crooks. My stay would of been a lot less pleasant without these charges added.

Be careful staying at this resort. While they say they provide butler service, it is really a scam for them to steal from you. I left my wallet, jewelry and some clothes in my room. When I reported that I inadvertently left the items, I was told there was no way I could have left the items as the maid would have brought them directly to the loss prevention office. After repeated attempts to try and get updates on my missing items with no success, I had to file a police report. I was told later by the St. Regis loss prevention team that they work quite a bit with the Dana Point Police on incidents like mine. Not a good feeling, as it seems they keep the staff that is stealing and do not turn them over to the police. They later supposedly found the missing items minus $360 in cash, and sent the items to me but at the wrong address. When I tried to verify that they sent it to the right address, they told me to contact FedEx vs telling me they sent it to the wrong address. Pitiful customer service. The next day my credit card had a cash advance of $570 withdrawn from it. In addition, the thief tried to use my debit card. Do not get lulled into thinking this is a nice resort where they screen their employees before hiring them. It seems the loss prevention team is in cahoots with the service staff. My safe was broken so there was no way to lock up my valuables in the room. BE VERY CAREFUL at this resort. And do not let the friendly atmosphere and staff think you are in a safe place.

One of the worst Starwood properties I visited. Not professional staff, endless errors in bills, no respect for privacy, ridiculous price. I am a platinum Starwood member with 300+ nights in various Starwood properties around the world. This is is one of the worst. Stay away.

A beautiful hotel with a fabulous beach club. We came back to our room one evening and there was a bottle of champagne chilling. I called the front desk to see if they could tell me who sent it, and apparently the hotel had sent it complimentary. Service was great and would stay at this Hotel again.

This was, perhaps, the best hotel I've ever stayed in. Compares favorably to Grand Wailea Beach Hotel, St. Regis in Hawaii, so it's not just the lovely location in Dana Point. The rooms are very well appointed (although a tad dark for reading, but I understand that they're correcting that), the service is impeccable. Small wishes are granted with a sense of graciousness that makes you feel very pampered, like you're the very best guest they've ever had(!) No nickel and diming once you succumb to the $25 resort fee. Stunning grounds, fabulous pool, gorgeous stay-all-day beach and lots of good restaurants. We actually never left the resort on our short-ish stay, which is rare for us, because there's so much to explore and so many good dining options. Enjoy.

Not just beautiful; beyond it! Stellar yet far from stuffy, professional yet personable customer & guest service. Immaculate views and accommodations. I live in LA so it's an hour drive away, yet I felt worlds away from work, hustle and bustle. .. just lots of Zen and abundance of woooosaahh ♥

While trying to make a reservation, I was laughed at for asking what a "resort fee" was. I was very insulted. The implication was then made that I couldn't afford it if I had to ask what it was. I will never stay at this resort, but rest assured, I can afford it.

Timeless service and amenities as always at the St. Regis brand. This property is absolutely beautiful. Nothing is out of place. The restaurant was delicious, and the wait staff were very attentive. In-room dinning was perfect as well. The four stars are because the room was less than standard at a property of this caliber. The view from the balcony was of a construction site. Nothing like mounds of dirt, orange construction fences and a Caterpillar tractor sitting outside your balcony at a five star resort! Did I mention the balcony. Much to small to do anything on. And the balcony door wouldn't latch so every time the A/C turned on, the door would open just enough to trip the sensor on the door to turn the A/C off. Very frustrating! No jets in the tub; an amenity that is expected at this kind of property. I would absolutely come here again. Some details were overlooked is all.
