Important local info for websites

Google Update: Structured Data Markup To Surface Business Info From Your Website in Google Search This exciting update has important implications for businesses in Google Search, so we'll be talking a lot more about it.

From John Mueller, Webmaster Central Team:
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
It's fantastic to see this live! If you're a local business, you can use your own website to provide information about your location & opening hours (and more) using schema.org markup.

From Pierre Far, Google Engineer, explanation:
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
If you have business website, whether it's a national chain or a local business, we're announcing support for schema.org structured data markup to help us surface the correct business info in Google search.
Customer service phone numbers
Business opening hours, locations
Restaurant menus

This info tends to be on what's called a "location page" like a store locator for a chain or the contact us page for a small business. To help you build the best user- and search-friendly location pages, we're also publishing detailed guidelines...  [Guidelines attached below]

☛  goo.gl/hzX3gr

From Google's Webmaster Central Blog:
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
Today we would like to share our recommendations for helping Google identify and surface... information typically found in a business's location page or a "contact us" section of a company's website. When Google correctly identifies these pages and is able to extract the relevant information from them, it is more likely to surface that information to searchers looking for the business.

Today we're also introducing recommendations about the best way to build these location pages to make them easily accessible and understandable to Googlebot, and more importantly, Google's users.

Location pages for businesses & organizations:
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
Searchers use Google and other search engines to find information about a local business.

Such queries are answered when Google correctly identifies the page on the business's site containing this information, and then correctly extracts the information from the page. Such pages, called the location pages, can be the business's homepage, the "contact us" page, or part of store or branch locator.

The guidelines below explain how to build location pages for optimal crawling and indexing, and how to use schema.org markup to help Google's algorithms extract the relevant information.

☛  developers.google.com/webmasters/business-location-pages

Schema.org examples for location pages:
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
A standalone Restaurant with a menu
A store with holiday opening hours
A Pharmacy with opening hours and phone number
Pharmacy as a department of a larger store
Multiple departments and branches of chains
Specifying addresses

☛  developers.google.com/webmasters/business-location-pages/schema.org-examples

Companies: Specify customer service numbers:
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
Use structured data markup embedded in your public website to specify your preferred phone numbers. You can specify four types of phone numbers:

Customer service
Technical support
Billing support
Bill payment

For each number, you can also specify:
is the number toll-free?
is the number for the hearing-impaired?
does the number serve a specific country or countries?

Google’s algorithms will process all the phone numbers you specify and attempt to show the most relevant one in response to users’ queries.
