Tolerance.  Like most things in our society these days, has gotten twisted.  Tolerance means accepting the differences in other people.  It means attempting to understand where they come from.  It means trying to accommodate differences that really do not matter.  It does not mean having to agree to things that are incorrect.  It does not mean terrible people with offensive ideas must be tolerated.  It does not mean every person must be tolerated when they behave badly.  It does require an honest attempt to participate in a reciprocal pact of respect.  When you fail, from the start, to show respect for another human, you lose all claims that your opinions or actions should be tolerated.

So, for those who are challenged by this concept:

Hitler's solution to Jews was wrong.  It failed to respect the value of the Jews and had no negative impact on him as a person.  Hitler gets no tolerance for his incorrect views.

The Jews' being different, but hurting no one in their difference, were to be tolerated.

If you are a Nazi, you get to preach your crap as part of the first amendment.  You are intolerant and wrong.  You do not have to be tolerated, and calling you names does not make you the victim.

Now, apply this to gays and homophobia...Do you really want to fight that battle?

Damn, you're good. That's cool.

Today's project: making an accurate clock for my wife's office in a city government building. Connecting to the Internet is not allowed there, and NIST's WWVB radio signal (that "atomic" radio clocks use) rarely works in any building on the coast. I'm using a Raspberry Pi computer and a GPS receiver.

They had previously looked at GPS, but the devices reported no signal in the building. There isn't good enough reception there to pick up the multiple satellites needed to determine latitude and longitude continuously. But all the clock needs is to pick up one satellite for a few seconds every day or so... and there's good enough reception for that.

Not shown in the photos: the little GPS unit (a GlobalSat BU-353), which plugs into one of the Raspberry Pi's USB ports, and the TV's power cord. A USB port on the TV powers the Raspberry Pi and the GPS (barely).

Brilliant ideas and a vision for what we can be...but have not yet achieved.

Nexus 7 is convenient to carry. Sitting at home I tend to grab my 10" iPad.

Looking for feedback on whether the nexus 7 is at all frustrating (screen size wise) in real life use. Do people reach for the nexus 10. Looking to buy and not sure which to go for. Thanks Adam
