Absolutely incredible spot in the Mission for a foodie's take on Chinese food. This same restaurant will have a three-hour way in New York City so definitely take advantage of a visit while here in the city. There are no reservations so my recommendation would be to hit an off-night like a Tuesday or Wednesday. If you have a larger party, put your name on the list and head down the block to Beauty Bar for a drink or two. The beers here are refreshing - unfortunately, the tea is a bit weak. In terms of the food, most of the stuff on the menu are awesome although my personal favorite is the Veal Rib. The meat falls off the bone and is absolutely exquisite. The communal tables are fun - we have definitely shared meals with people here before. Just make sure not to linger because there is ALWAYS an eager set of people waiting after you for their meal :)

There's a lot of hype surrounding this place, but go on off-hours (I chose to go close to opening on a Sunday) and you can avoid the lines and chaos. Their dishes are creative, with fusion twists, like kung pao pastrami. It's worth a try if you're looking for some traditional Chinese flavors, but also something different. The food itself is high quality, and clearly some thought has been put into the dishes.

This place is the BOMB! The food is delicious, imaginative and they deliver in selected parts of the city. Kudos if you live in the Mission because they'll deliver to you if you do. It's best to get there early or you'll have a bit of a wait and parking will be a b**ch. I really like it because it's Chinese food with an elegant twist but it's not in a fancy pansy location. Still get that hole-in-the-wall feel but with elevated food.

I avoided this place for awhile, assuming it would not live up to its hype. Reluctantly, I gave up, braved the long line and finally tried it. And it's amazing. Don't expect traditional Chinese food, but look forward to trying unique dishes (like Kung Pao pastrami!) Do expect a long wait, loud music and so-so service, but the atmosphere is lively and the food is really good.

Once you manage to get inside, the ambiance is great! Love the music, the glowing dragon, low lights, and surprisingly nice staff for being such a hip spot. They also let you bring in your own beers for a really cheap corking fee, so get some tasty 22s at the bodega down the street and grub out on the mind-blowing food! The first time you order food with Sichuan pepper in it can be a bit psychedelic still tastes so good, but you can't feel your mouth anymore! Fun spot for visiting friends or date night.

Mission Chinese Food is hole in the wall Chinese restaurant on Mission Street with incredible food. There are no frills. Nothing fancy. Just great food. A few notes about the restaurant: There are no signs that say "Mission Chinese Food". The restaurant has a sign that says something else. I found the place by observing the crowd of people waiting to get in. Because the food is popular and the place is so small, there is almost always a wait. We waited for 30 min on a Sunday night. If you want high quality Chinese food, come here.
