Science writer, editor loves nature, traveling and family
In my work life, I am a science writer, editor and lesson developer working primarily in the earth and environmental sciences. I must have grown up sometime because I have a husband, two teenage kids, a dog, and a house in Phoenix. Despite this, I still like to hike, camp, eat good food and visit exotic places near and far.

Bragging rights
I've been down more than 10,000' below sea level in the research submersible Alvin and climbed to 15,491' above sea level at the base camp on Mt. Cotopaxi in Equador.

Our recent trip to Northern California included two vet visits. This one was due to our dog eating something like 3/4-lb of mint chocolate fudge - oops! We were passing through Red Bluff and called Valley Veterinary, which I chose because we got off I-5 on Antelope. They met us at the door and took her back to make her vomit. They took wonderful care of her and of us and did a followup call a few days later. If we lived in Red Bluff, we would definitely make Valley our vet.

We were traveling through Northern California and our dog's cough was getting worse. Just south of Santa Rosa we decided to take her to a vet and called Alderbrook. They were wonderful! Got us in right away even though Dr. Thorne was in surgery. Dr. Thorne gave Lily a thorough exam that included two phone calls to her regular vet for information and gave her some meds. She was better a few days later. Dr. Thorne and the entire staff were helpful and thoughtful. We love our vet in Phoenix, but we would change to Alderbrook if we ever moved near Santa Rosa!
