So it's MythTV without the TV bit, and a yucky theme

Not really. Especially since the chance of them getting this into actual TVs is very slim ATM.Jan 9, 2012
+Fabian Scherschel - are you just guessing about the chances or do you have some inside what TV manufacturers are thinking right now?Jan 9, 2012
+Charles Profitt I'm not guessing. They have announced no hardware partners and they wouldn't hold them back if they had. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get into this market? TV margins are razor thin. Microsoft has been trying to get into this field for over a decade now (that is why they came up with the Xbox) and Google has been trying to get their stuff into TVs for over a year now too.
Believe it or not, I've actually done extensive research in this field for a while now. I believe it when I see the actual device on a store shelf. It's all just PR at this point.Jan 9, 2012
Don't forget Apple too, they have the Apple TV which isn't as popular as their other lines like the iPad, iPhone etc. You hear about the queues for the iPhone and iPad launches on TV and newspapers, not so much the Apple TV.Jan 9, 2012
Apple TV is great hardware, though. If other hardware comes in the same form-factor, I'd love to hear about it, specially low-power ARM like the PandaBoard. Then we can do stuff like this: http://rsalveti.wordpress.com/2012/01/06/hw-video-decode-and-xbmc-ubuntu-linaro/Jan 9, 2012
I must admit, despite not liking Apple, I was impressed when I saw the Apple TV. Did think about wiping everything and installing a Linux distro...Jan 9, 2012
