This isn't my project but I wanted to submit it anyways. Feathers is a
lightweight Node framework built on top of Express that enables you to
build Meteor-style real-time apps without the the compromise of having a lot of magic happening behind the scenes. Feathers is a thin layer on
top of Express, so all Express middleware continues to work, it just allows you to build services (CRUD-style) that automatically come with a REST API and Socket.IO events.

I've been using it on a client project and am amazed by how simple it is
to convert an existing Express app to a Feathers one (most of the time
you only need to replace the express() call with a feathers() call).

I'm an advocate of this project even though I'm uninvolved in its
development because I feel this is more of the "Node way" to build a
real time application. Like I said, there is no magic, you still have
complete control of what the application can do. You can use it in some
places and not in others (which is why it's so nice to turn a
non-real-time app into a real-time one). You don't have to "buy in" to
any monolithic framework, if you're already using Express you should be using Feathers too. The developers tell me they are working on Model adapters for the popular client-side frameworks (Angular, Ember, etc) and when that happens you won't have to subscribe to any Socket.IO events, it will happen transparently within the Model layer.

Highly recommend taking 30 minutes out of your day to create a branch of one of your Express projects, plug in Feathers and see how you like it.
Feathers makes it easy to get REST and real-time APIs running by using Services. A Service is a JavaScript object which provides a certain set of methods and can be used just like an Express middleware. The rapid start example creates a simple Todo REST and SocketIO service that maintains a list ...

Just discovered aspell and loving it.
Spell check is a "feature" we all take for granted. No matter where we are typing - in a document, on a blog, in an email...we all know our spell check will be there to take care of us. But what do we do about those files that are not created or edited in tools without spell checkers?
