Well done to the Australian Physiotherapy Association for promoting the health of all the Tradies. It has always surprised me that many of us don't take preventative steps to look after our musculoskeletal health. We develop back pain and we wait and wait until it starts to affect our lives in a very serious way. If our ute starts making an odd noise, we are off to the mechanic later that same day, yet we don't apply this same strategy to our back pain or other injuries, The concern is that once a problem has gone on for too long, we compensate, other areas of our body start to stiffen and work differently, the brain becomes more sensitive and usually the problem will worsen unless we take active steps to manage the problem. Physiotherapists are active in not only treating the specific problem but also looking at what factors are keeping it going?! We find that if people come straight away they often only need a few sessions of physiotherapy and the problem is often sorted out very quickly.

Headstart Physio are attending Lorimer Moseley's talk this Wednesday at Curtin Uni. This video below gives a great insight  into pain itself and the mechanisms of pain generation, and also how we can trick the brain and modulate pain. Well worth a watch!

More interesting research that we should be paying attention to. As physiotherapists, we constantly see the impact of too much sitting on people's health. It is amazing how many hours we are sitting these days. Driving in the car, sitting at work or school, driving home,. sitting at dinner, sitting on the couch watching TV. It all adds up to detrimental effects on our health. Not to mention back, neck and shoulder pain and headaches. How can you decrease your sitting time?
