- Female Drill Sergeant on duty- On one trip we visit Best Western Plus Hotels in Allentown. At the front desk was a female drill sergeant. (dark hair with glasses) After we had greeted, we heard only three words - Name, Passport, Credit Card- So the first impression was not very good. The next hotel guest was also treated unfriendly: Name, Passport, Credit Card. The rooms were fine. An existing pool was freezing cold. A shower at the pool was not available. The breakfast was fine. The overall impression of the hotel was not satisfactory.

1) Location is not as close to the highway as it appears on the map. 10 minute ride off the interstate. Building is situation about 20 feet off a loud, busy main road. 2) Parking is a nightmare. Instead of having a logically laid out lot with numerous spaces surrounding the building with multiple access points to the building, there is one loooooooong row of spaces that extends out from the front entrance. So if you're not parked up front, you're walking quite a ways to your vehicle. When we got there the turnaround was blocked by a 3 or 4 poorly parked (not to mention unoccupied) cars that prevented us from getting to the front door to unload kids and luggage for quite some time. Not fun when kids are tired, and walking up with them + luggage from the other end of the parking lot is not an option. 3) The designated smoking area is immediately to the left of the main entrance, so each time you enter or exit, you get the priviledge of walking through a cloud of smoke. The stairwells all reeked of smoke as well on this particular occasion. 4) The clientele seemed to leave a lot to the imagination. I failed to realize during planning that this location is much closer to NY/NJ than I would have guessed. A lot of really sketchy people around, and the pool was loaded with raucous guests and their children, while some sat on the side and drank beer. 5) The breakfast was fine - about average for complimentary hot breakfasts, not horrible. The eating area itself was poorly staffed so it wasn't as clean or as stocked as you'd expect it to be. I also found a construction nail from a nail gun randomly in the middle of the floor just waiting for a law suit, so I was sure to leave it at the front desk as we checked out. 6) Staffing in general seems to be a major issue. When we got in, on a Friday night no less, there was only ONE employee on site. I don't blame her personally for anything, but this poor girl was doing the best she could as it was 10 minutes before I ever even saw her show up at the front desk to check us in. She was apparently having to take care of other housekeeping matters throughout the building simultaneously. Maybe 3 or 4 people called out sick that night, but still, one person should not have to do the work of 4, at least in the "hospitality industry". The only good thing was the room itself that we stayed in. It was spacious and pretty clean. Unfortunately due to proximity to the main road, it was loud with traffic noise the whole time. I also felt bad for some of the guests who were in some of the "suites". There were a couple of them that were right across the hall from the incredibly loud ice machine and vending machines. Who wants to pay extra for a suite when you have to listen to guests frequently getting ice or snacks and soft drinks just outside your door?? Poorly designed facility.

Overall this was a very nice place to stay. The rooms were very nice except the a/c didnt get very cold. The pool is right of the lobby which made the tile floor very slippery and you had to walk on it that was the only way to the rooms. The only problem we had was the ran my credit card when I first got checked in. If it wasnt for a person at the front desk complaining about being double charged for the room opon check out I would have gotten double charged too. Because they tried. However would stay there again.

Hank Hill is a Hater! If you actually follow his link it describes a carbon monoxide exposure with one fatality in 2008. Monoxide detectors were not required at that time and they have since been installed. Hotel management seems responsible, concerned and honest impression during the news coverage of this event. Needed a place to stay for son's sports event. This was my second stay (in Jan 2012.) The rooms a little less than spotless this time (one dead insect on wall in bathroom and milk spilled on chair by previous guest - both cleaned by staff within minutes of my request.) Nice outward bowing shower curtains, HDTV, beds, carpet clean and comfortable. heating unit efficient. Breakfast includes fruit cereals coffee juice and waffles buffet style and is fine here. There is no other restaurant in the hotel. There is a nice family restaurant across the street but you will pretty much have to drive anywhere you want to go.Unless you want to stay across the street from Dorney Park, that will be true almost anywhere around here. The pool and workout rooms are small but will do if you really need them. The staff have been fantastic both times. On second visit, place was a little overrun with kids and teens, but everything still quieted down by about 2230. I echo the sentiment of a previous reviewer. This place is very nice. You are not going to find anything much better in this locale.

Only used the meeting room. Group interview to discuss seasonal swimming pool contract work. Room was ready well before time, and tables with chairs were setup in chevron style as requested. Young lady at front desk was professional and helpful. Cost of meeting room was very reasonable. UGlassIt highly recommends BEST WESTERN PLUS, Allentown, PA.

Needed a place to stay overnight after a wedding. The set-up was great. It said two queen beds, but it was a king and a queen and pull out sofa. The room was very clean and the front desk attendant was very helpful. Would definitely stay in this again and definitely in another Best Western.
