Good interview with Quilliam's Maajid Nawaz. Fleshes out the mindset and process of radicalization pretty well.
When Maajid Nawaz was 16 he joined a radical Islamist group. After four years in prison in Egypt, he decided to leave it. "I'm very, very lucky to have been able to get through it," he says.

Interesting overview from Fred Wilson. Short and sweet.
I'm not much for the rear view mirror. I like to look forward, not back. I guess that's why I'm in the line of work I'm in. But I'm going to force myself to look back at 2014 and explain what just happened. Doing that will help me look forward (tomorrow?) and explain what is going to happen.

Finally reading The Corner. Really well articulated, insightful and sad.

This was a really deep and respectful discussion. A good example of how dialogue should be conducted around contentious issues.

According to the booklet included in this awesome compilation (totally worth it if into soul/funk) Sly Stone apparently wanted to produce a bunch of people, including Dylan.

Now that would have been an interesting artifact: A 73 Dylan album produced by Sly Stone.

Excellent analysis from +Carnegie Endowment for International Peace  as usual. This is a great place to start if  you want to gain a fundamental understanding of the situation in #Egypt  beyond the headlines

Currently reading a book titled "The Intellectual Origins Of Egyptian Nationalism."

This book was published in 1960, and discusses intellectual contributions made by the likes of Rifaa Al Tahtawi, Mohammad Abdou, and Qasim Amin in the early 1900s.

That is a century and some change, and we're still somehow debating some of those things. Now that's a bummer.

Had not realized Massi had done a Tiny Desk session about in 2012. Was nice to see she's still awesome!
A soulful yet steely singer-songwriter from Algeria charts her own course in these four songs.

That is why I am a fan of C-SPAN (I know...I may be the only one evangelizing for #cspan  on social).  Extended and detailed content without the unnecessary flash.

Interview with The Square director
Director Jehane Noujaim talked her Academy Award-nominated documentary, [The Square]. She described the film as a story about the basic struggle for freedom and democracy, framed by events which began in Tahrir Square in Egypt during 2011. She discussed how she came to make the film, which was not planned in advance, and its evolution as historic events continued to occur. She talked about the people featured throughout the film, including the yo...

This place has amazing food for a pub. They have a great beer selection (Try the Proving Ground) and good wine on tap. Highlights include the magnolia burger, duck-fat fries, and the amazing fried chicken (best I've had in SF) which is only served on Thursdays. Could get a little bit noisy and crowded on weekends. Staff is super friendly and responsive. I would definitely check this out if you are exploring upper Haight eating and/or drinking possibilities.
