The total settlement for the Kalamazoo River Superfund site is $103 million. Of that $50.5 million was designated for the Allied site. PCB's migrate only if when exposed to running water which the EPA plan addressed in their original proposal. This plan well protected human health and the environment. The Kalamazoo area wants to solve a problem that doesn't exist by the removal of all the PCB's. The compromise plan will remove $ 7.5 to $17.5 million from the funds available for the clean up of the remaining 80 miles of river. In other words they want to spend money on PCB's that are not getting into the water column and ignore the area's where PCB's are daily eroding into the Kalamazoo River and Lake Michigan.
