FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gardner, KS — The community is invited to stop by for a free ‘Be Smart, Be Healthy, Be There!’ cancer screening hosted by the Gardner Masonic Lodge on Saturday, March 8 from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church on 138 Shawnee.

Medical professionals from The University of Kansas Cancer Center, along with Lodge members and staff from the Midwest Cancer Alliance, will be on hand to provide services that include:

• Skin Cancer Screenings
• Bone Density Screenings
• Prostate Screenings
• Breast Cancer Education & Self-Exam Information

This free community outreach event is one of six being held across the state this year by the Kansas Masonic Foundation.

“I’m so proud of the support Kansas Masons have shown for cancer education and research over the past 40 years,” said Robert Shively, Director of The Kansas Masonic Foundation. “Cancer screening outreach events like this are great examples of the ways Masons are making a difference in their communities.”

Dozens of area Masons work with the Kansas Masonic Foundation to coordinate each of the free screening events that often draw several hundred attendees of all ages.

“About 25% of the people who attend our Masonic Lodge screenings are advised by the medical staff to follow up with their doctor afterwards,” said Ron Elrod, a Mason volunteer in Gardner. “Time and again that turns out to be life-saving advice.”

For more information on the Gardner Masonic Lodge ‘Be Smart, Be Healthy, Be There!’ Cancer Screening Outreach event contact 913-787-5412.

We'll be having our regular stated meeting plus...

Visiting from the Bethel #39 in Baldwin, the Job's Daughters will be sharing the date of their annual Thanksgiving Dinner. Please come to encourage their public speaking skills and listen to their presentation.

Also, we'll be welcoming a new member, so we will need to fill any vacant positions we might have for our first degree work. If you are interested and are planning to attend, please come.

And finally, we'll be planning our Spring Cancer Screen event in more detail and sharing any news to update the lodge with since our last meeting. We'll have a press release to publish soon, so please stay tuned!
