My good friend has written a short eBook, "University of the Road", detailing his travel adventures as a young backpacker in the mid 70's.

The book is a collection of letters that he sent back to his parents whilst travelling, and some of the tales he tells have to be read to be believed! I was surprised by the similarity in his experiences and feelings to ones I had travelling many of the same routes some 20 years later.

The letters to his parents convey the innocence of the first time traveler, and how his experience and confidence grow with each new country and challenge he faces.

The eBook is available to download on Amazon, and I can highly recommend it to you.

A little something myself and the rest of the Holler dev team built as a project to push the limits on what we could achieve using some of the latest CSS techniques.

Another absolutely stunning demo of what HTML5 and CSS3 can deliver. This interactive, flip page, pop up book guide to Google services is mindblowing.

It's that time of year again when I'm on the search for another backend developer to join the team at Holler Sydney.

A couple of key requirements: Symfony and/or Zend framework experience, LAMP stack/ *nix admin skills, good comms etc.

Are you that person? Do you know someone who might be that person?

Read the job spec and get in touch for more details.

Almost 18 months ago I was somewhat tricked into joining an outdoor training group. I say tricked because at that time if I was given the option of joining, or even having a trial, I would have declined, settled back into my armchair with another beer and packet of chips. But I did go, and after three consecutive nights was hooked.

We, as a family, very quickly settled into a 5 nights a week, two sessions a night routine. Fitness levels increased, body proportions changed, and most importantly, weight dropped off. I set myself an initial goal of 5kg weight loss. After the first 8 weeks I had lost 9kg, and leveled out a few months later at 15kg lost. I was a happier, healthier man, and people noticed the physical and personality changes. Life was good!

Around 6 months ago I changed job, and with that came a change to routine. I was no longer able to make the evening training sessions due to less flexible work hours and increasingly bad traffic. With no regular exercise routine, I started putting weight back on, and as the weight increased my happiness levels decreased. 6 months has seen me put back on nearly 8kg. THIS HAS TO STOP!

Today I had an idea, you decide whether it's bat shit crazy or frickin genius.

Each day I spend an absolute minimum of 1hour crawling through traffic to and from work. I sit in my car, getting more angry by the minute at the amount of my life being wasted, beating myself up about the weight that I'm putting on, generally having a shit time. If traffic wasn't so bad I could be attending the morning group sessions, and still make it to work on time.

And here comes the great idea - a mobile gym! What if there was such a thing. A converted bus/coach/truck/whatever, that you paid a daily fare to use, and rather than sitting still for the hour, you could work out. There would be movement to contend with, but there are enough machines and training plans to overcome and even incorporate the movement.

There are already private coach services (e.g. BulletBus) that provide the transport option. What would it take to make the FitBus (I should TM that!) happen?

So, bat shit crazy or frickin genius? Let me know what you think.

I'm chairing my first job interview this afternoon for a Senior PHP Developer position. I've sat in on a few interviews before, but have never chaired, so I'm a little nervous about the process.

Does anybody have tips for interview format/questions that I could incorporate into my process? The interview will be informal, but I would like to come away with a solid understanding of the applicants abilities and personality.

Any assistance would be most welcome.
