Jr. finished seventh at the AdvoCare 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday jumping up to the second spot in the Sprint Cup standings with 871 points. Denny Hamlin took home the checkered flag for the second straight week.

Jr. clinched a berth in NASCAR's Chase for the Sprint Cup on Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway, marking the first time in his career he's qualified for the playoffs in consecutive seasons. Dale Earnhardt Jr. lost a top-10 finish with a late spin and fell out of the top spot in the Sprint Cup standings finishing 28th at Watkins Glen on Sunday. "It was a bad deal, I think. The track shouldn't have oil on it. … It was a bad, ugly finish at the end."

Holding true to form during his charmed year, Earnhardt managed to maintain his points lead for the second consecutive race despite a season-worst 36th after struggling with transmission problems on Sunday afternoon.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. finally got some good news at Indy. Earnhardt moved into the NASCAR Sprint Cup series points lead with a fourth-place finish Sunday in the Brickyard 400. It was his best finish in 13 starts at the famed Speedway, and it moved him 14 points ahead of previous leader Matt Kenseth, who finished 35th after a crash.

Dale finished 4th at the Quaker State 400 and stayed in 2nd place in the Sprint Cup standings with 622 points. Brad Keselowski raced to his series-leading third victory of the year Saturday night at the Kentucky Speedway.

Kentucky Derby oddsmaker Mike Battaglia created a morning line for a race at the Speedway: Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Matt Kenseth are his choices as the co-favorites at 5-1.

Dale finished 23rd at the Toyota/Save Mart 350 falling to 3rd place in the Sprint Cup standings with 582 points. Clint Bowyer assumed early control of the race and hung on to the lead on a green-white-checker finish, holding off Tony Stewart to win at Sonoma on Sunday.
