I talked with an officer, a detective of 34 years regarding something being stolen from my house. He was no help. I should have filed the report with the nicer officer when I called the first time on January 2nd. I learned my lesson on that one. And let me just state for the record, that the legal system in the United States is completely awful and broken anyway. Maybe I should study law instead of communication.

My husband John and I had our wedding reception there on August 4th, 2012. Considering I grew up in Berwyn and originally wanted our wedding to be in Hawaii but couldn't have it there, we thought that Chef Shangri-La would be an awesome way to still have our wedding have Polynesian Flare! It was so intimate and Betty and Duane were amazing to work with. My sister and I thought this would be the perfect venue considering all my likes and what I wanted and when talking with Betty on the phone she was so helpful and they were available for our date! We planned our wedding in a very short time. I knew it was just meant to be. Betty stated that the venue does have live entertainment there every 3rd Saturday of each month but she said she would put a call out to Gigi and the Harrison Street Ukelele players who I happened to know from attending yealy Beatles Fests. They play Beatles music and our wedding was Polynesian and Beatles themed. I walked down the aisle to "All You Need Is Love." Betty didn't even know I liked the Beatles until I became so excited on the phone when she told me about Gigi's group. They happened to be available for the night and we were thrilled! Betty and Duane were so accommodating to us and our guests. The food was outstanding and because I was busy talking with guests, I was unable to eat so Betty was so kind to make me some vegetable Lo Mein at the end of the night! They also gave us wonderful coconut glassware for our guests to take and gave us our very own special glasses. We are looking to add another set to our collection of Hawaiian themed glassware. I recommend Chef-Shangri-La to anyone that loves Polynesian and Cantonese food and loves good customer service. They've been around for a long time and have an excellent reputation. Also, the atmosphere in there is unbeatable. It's Hawaiian themed and so gorgeous. They have flowers and a fountain with swimming fish and tiki's everywhere. I loved the fact that we used them because they made our night so special. I'm glad it wasn't at some banquet hall where nobody cares about you and the service is lousy. It was more intimate and Betty went above and beyond to be there at our table, set our desserts out, communicate with me throughout the night, be part of the biggest day of my life and care about me. They also asked if we wanted a privacy screen put up and I was like "oh, it's no big deal, you don't have to do that." But they were so kind to do it anyway. I felt so special and that is how they make you feel there. I love them and will promote them in any way that I can. I am looking forward to their Fong Fest coming up in September. Everyone, follow them on Facebook and become a fan. If you like good drinks, good food, and Hawaiian flare, you'll love Chef Shangri-La! Oh and we also hired Hula dancers called Hula Chicago: Halau I Ka Pono with Kumu June Tanoue that Betty recommended. They were fantastic and helped make the night even more special than it already was. We will be returning for our yearly anniversaries and will be returning more often than that. Best experience ever! Great place to celebrate the love of the Hawaiian Islands. Thank you, Betty and Duane for your hospitality and making our wedding magical!

This place is FANTASTIC! First of all I love Ginger and Garlic so the name is a plus. Secondly, my boyfriend and I kept driving past it saying, "we need to go there, we need to go there." Today we were doing some networking around the area and wanted to go out to eat after a long day. We looked at each other and were like "where do you want to go?" We drove down Diehl and said if we didn't see anything we really liked that we would try Ginger and Garlic and we were so glad that we did. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the beautiful authentic decor. Now I realize that this is not why people come to eat. Why do we dine? We dine for the food, right? I can testify to nice decor and crappy food...we've been there, done that, and never going back to that particular place again. Alright, so we notice the decor. We were greeted by Robert (Bobby) and he asked if I wanted some tea. I am just getting over a cold so I said, "yes, that would be great." I had a pot of the Jasmine tea, which I recommend. Then our order was taken for our appetizers. We had the Egg Rolls which were very good. Then Robert came back and asked if we knew what we wanted. Now, I will tell you there are no descriptions on the menu and they do this because they want to be able to explain what the food is to you and have that interaction with you. This is awesome. Having worked in the hospitality industry in the past, this is important. And their menu list is HUGE. I told him I didn't like anything spicy because I was sensitive and I preferred sweet over savory. He recommended the Mango Shrimp which I was drawn to even before he made the recommendation. My boyfriend had the Beef Sizzling Skillet. His food came out first and mine second. I appreciated this because when we got our food, it was piping hot. My Mango Shrimp was $15 and when my food came out I realized I got MUCH more for $15! I'm not even kidding. I had a huge plate of prawns and mango (which I love) and it was the best food. It wasn't too sweet and the balance was perfect. I was raving to Robert about the food and the recent horrible dining experiences my boyfriend and I had been having. Also, the presentation of the plates were beautiful along with their other dinnerware. After we explained that my boyfriend worked as a manager for a formal wear store and I worked in marketing, Robert took us on a tour of the restaurant and explained why things were the way they were. You could tell that the owners put a lot of forethought into the creation of this business. I was very impressed. I recommend this venue to anyone looking to have an affordable, nice, authentic, Asian experience. What I appreciated the most was the teamwork that I witnessed among the staff and the ambiance as well as how good the food was. Since my boyfriend works in formal wear, we will be recommending Ginger and Garlic to everyone that still needs to do their rehearsal dinner or even their wedding. They also have a killer lunch menu with affordable pricing. I will pay for quality and this was a quality place. I definitely left with left overs which they explained how to reheat because shrimp and mango are sensitive food items. I was blown away by the service and I recommend this place to everyone. I'm very happy that we ate there tonight. I will make sure to tell all of my friends if they want an authentic, beautiful, Asian Food experience. If I could give it 10 stars I would. Keep it up Ginger and Garlic, we'll be coming back bringing more guests next time!
