This Hangout is an effort to support competition applicants and govtech innovators alike- all are welcome! (Deadline for the competition is Sept 2, 2014 at 4pm!)
This program will talk about how to pitch a technology innovation to state and local gov'ts and how to make the case from their perspective.

MassIT has partnered with MassChallenge, a start-up accelerator that supports high-impact, early-stage entrepreneurs, on this initiative.

The application deadline is September 2, 2014 at 4:00pm ET.
This Hangout On Air is hosted by The Capital Network. The live video broadcast will begin soon.

I know some of you following me are interested in the future of money. Here's the beginning of a proposal from fellow Mozillian +Daniel Buchner for bringing the action into the browser.. which is exactly where the action needs to be!

Browser vendors could make donations, tips, paying friends, and value transfer stupid-easy by implementing a simple digital wallet semantic and trusted browser UI. #Bitcoin #Browsers #Firefox #Chrome

The Extensible Web Manifesto. #extendthewebforward. We—the undersigned—want to change how web standards committees create and prioritize new features. We believe that this is critical to the long-term health of the web. We aim to tighten the feedback loop between the editors of web standards and ...

Mobile is a gated world where you have to ask permission to build a new cool thing and put it in an app store. There has never been a more important time than now to roll up our sleeves and build it, teach it; loosen the gatekeeper’s grip.

Decorating the Mozilla Boston office with the +Mozilla Webmakers #makerparty table cloth that's been sitting in my room the past few months. Looks great, but I think the space needs some more conference scale swag/posters to make it really feel like home.

"But this is more important than immigration reform cash piles. This is more important than the FTC’s antitrust law against Google, for which the company hired 12 lobbying firms and spent at least $13 million. This is more important than the fight against SOPA and PIPA, for which the Internet companies came together in united opposition, which included a Wikipedia blackout and a special Google doodle to mark the occasion. This is more important than patent litigation reform and immigration reform, in support of which tech leaders have been flying into Washington to meet with the President. Silicon Valley should be pouring more resources into the debate about surveillance than any of those endeavors. It needs to exert the full might of its political muscle in a push for reform. It can’t just be a participant. At this point, it is so intrinsically tied to the NSA and our daily lives that it has to be a leader."
A hand-drawn emoticon ought to be enough to push Silicon Valley over the edge. The goading smiley-face sketch on a leaked NSA slide, courtesy of the prolific Edward Snowden, which pinpointed a weak...

Introduction

As we move further into the 21st century, the implications of accelerating technological change continue to outpace our ability to cope with them.  We' are at risk of leaving the majority of our global population within the long tail of the acceleration curve as the literacy gap exponentially widens.

We have but one viable direction to take: to strategically speed up the progression of key social and technological advancements that increase our Agency (the human capacity for action).

I've set my sights on making the web stronger and more resilient in ways that ultimately empower people within the contexts of personal development as well as incubating local creative economies.

Let's play!
