Traditional New York style bagels served with a smile; House of Bagels, San Francisco is where hungry San Franciscans go for a great breakfast, lunch and snack!

We bake our delicious bagels from scratch every day, creating artisan breads (like fresh challahs and rye), traditional cookies (like hamentashen, black and white cookies, rugalah and Russian tea cakes), as well as everyone's favorite cookies and pastries (the best chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies around, bear claws, cheese pockets, etc.) with a New York flair. Our selection of baked goods, sandwiches, salads and beyond guarantee there is something on the menu for everyone!

In January 2006, our bakery was renovated to include a NY-style deli, seating and an art gallery. Right away, we won "Best of" for Deli and Take-out in SF Weekly’s “Best of” Reader's Poll and have continued to get accolades from customers and the press alike.

Whether you need them by the dozen or need a quick meal to hold you over, allow the friendly team at House of Bagels to get you what you need, today!

This place has good, real bagels. They sell pumpernickel as well, which I very much appreciate, as those are not so easy to find out here, but they really need to make them a bit more sour. Try their corn bagels - essentially, plain bagels rolled in cornmeal, adds a nice bit of grit. Also, I recommend their hamentashen - they have several varieties, all excellent.

It's awesome that you enjoy our authentic east-coast bagels, Steve! What's more, it sounds like our hamentashen are a big hit for you too. I hope we'll see you in again soon. -Jenny Puente, Owner

I went here for the first time for breakfast a few days ago, and I was surprised to see a line out the door! It's because I usually pass by House of Bagels in the afternoon and it's usually empty. But I can see why there was a line. They have a wide selection of bagels to choose from, including cragels! I got a plain cragel, and I thoroughly enjoyed it with the sundried tomato shmear. The cragles I saw were mostly sweet, so I hope they make an "everything" cragel someday! They also have good bagel sandwiches to choose from, as well as other savory and sweet treats. It's worth coming by any time of the day. And you can also get day-old bagels at a discount at the back of the restaurant. The place is pretty small, but there are tables and bar seating if you chose to eat there.

I have been craving bagels so I trekked out to the other side of town one Saturday morning in search of the supposed best New York-style bagels in town. I have never been to New York so I can't compare, but these were very good. I got my favorite of onion with plain spread. They had so many varieties of bagels and spreads that I actually want to try them all. It is a small place, set up like a deli. The people working behind the counter were very friendly and made sure everyone was helped right away. The biggest wait was for my food after I ordered it, but they did go through the crowd of people fairly quickly. This place is popular for a reason. I imagine when I went it wasn't as busy because it was early and really raining. I'm sure on a nice day, there would be a line out the door. I just wish this place was closer to where I live!

After hearing ranting about how these are the best bagels in SF, I finally visited the illustrious House of Bagels. I waited for 45 minutes for A BAGEL. one bagel. It was cold (ordered toasted). It was mediocre. My companion ordered a sandwich and a bagel. They were also lackluster & both of us were unimpressed. Sometimes legends are only legends and they're better in your head.

I love our neighborhood bagel shop! I always get the parmessan bagel with lox and green onion spread and it is soooo good. Also, love their day olds, as they are the same price as bagels from Costco - but a thousand times better in quality. Not sure if the whole cragel thing is taking off, but I do love their bagels.

Bagels and sandwiches are consistently delicious, service is consistently bad. Three employees working, yet all three coffees were out, half and half was out, and one employee was counting money. Took over 15 minutes to prepare a sandwich. They need a more efficient system to match their bagel quality.

Only real bagels this side of town (boiled not steamed), for those that don't know what that means, many places steam their "bagels" before baking them instead of boiling. This produces a more airy fluffy texture for the inside of the bagel, where a boiled bagel has a more chewy consistency. This store serves up about 20 different varieties of bagels (all along with their spread are made in house) from Jalapeno to Pumpkin with many other interesting varieties thrown in for good measure. It's a standing room, order at the counter, take your goodies to go type of place, but they can always make sandwiches while you wait. They also have great breads and other pastry items as well.
