Oh boy, we had such a nice Saturday today. An extraordinarily nice Saturday. And we didn't even make it down to see THE DUCK yet, although that is on the agenda for tomorrow, once I cross the finish line for the Great Race. Last night I finished Helen Bryan's The Sisterhood, which I didn't really…

This post has been sitting in the hopper for like a month. It's easy for me to come up with ideas for blog posts (usually the idea is: food I have eaten!) but often it is hard for me to find free time where I have enough energy and brainpower to plunk out an entry.…

If there are two things I can't resist, they are good food and good conversation. When my friend Mary announced she was starting a podcast--an appropriately named "BrunchBurgh" because it focuses on brunching with people around the 'burgh-- I couldn't wait to participate. She has been working on recording and post-production, and just launched her…

I never quite know what to make of restaurants that continuously run specials on Groupon or LivingSocial.  For some wildly expensive restaurants, a $25 coupon for $12 doesn't shave much off of their profit.  For more modest eateries, I'd assume that such coupons don't run them cheap, and so I wonder how the whole thing…

This week wins. As in it has demonstrated itself to be victorious over me.  I have been crazy, crazy tired. Not just sluggish, I'm talking bone tired. Can't keep my eyes open tired. Physically falling asleep tired. Yesterday I got back from Erie at like 4pm and immediately fell asleep tired.  Then I remembered how many…

First order of business: My photo of Bridge 10 Brasserie's coq au vin is in the Pittsburgh Restaurant Week photo contest.  And if I get the most votes, I will win tickets to the invite-only Restaurant Week closing party. And I like parties. And I like Restaurant Week. So I am hoping you'll be fantastic…

My Grandpa passed yesterday after battling lung cancer for many years.  He was resting and surrounded by loved ones, and I hope at complete peace.  This is a tough time for the Farinas, but we are sharing lots of love and support.  I only wish I were in California right now to give my Grandma…

My first "long run" after I decided to do the EQT 10 Miler was a mere 3 miles.  I struggled every step of it.  By the end I was gasping and exhausted.  My legs and back hurt for days afterward.  My body wasn't used to exertion, and who would have thought a half hour of…

Happy Birthday, Baby Beez!
http://beezuskiddo.com/3-going-on-35/
L'Shanah Tovah! Today is the birthday of the world, and of Baby Beez! I have a head full of thoughts about what kind of year I want to make this one, but I will save them for tomorrow. Today, my words are all for Baby Beez. Just 3 years ago, she joined our crazy family.…

Baby Beez's 3rd birthday. Involves: Cake, boats, and Spiderman. What else could you ask for, really?
http://beezuskiddo.com/baby-beezs-simple-birthday-celebration-with-gatewayclipper/
Baby Beez turns 3 on Thursday.  For her first and second birthdays, she had fairly traditional parties: lots of friends, lots of family members, lots of kids, lots of sugar, lots of chaos.  Now that she's turning 3, our family doesn't expect a whole shabang like they did her first birthday.  Most of her little…

The two topics that the human-interest columns are obsessing over right now are : (1) women lamenting their life choices, regardless of what they've chosen to do with their lives (sidenote: a producer for NPR's The Takeaway called me earlier this week to possibly participate in a discussion on their show about work/life balance as…

Ready for fall. Ready to be back in the swing of things. Ready to get down to bizness.
http://beezuskiddo.com/ready-for-fall/
Don't hate me for it you guys, but I'm totally ready for fall.  Sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes, new boxes of pens.  I love everything about fall.  At the beginning of summer I had just come off back-to-back trials and nonstop other work and was exhausted.  I was ready to travel. I was ready for fun.…
