Shadowbane had this issue as well. Alliances would get so big that they would dominate huge parts of the Server. No Guilds can compete, if land is challenged so many Guilds respond that they can never lose. Everytime a new server/shard started there was that initial rush and it was amazing and exciting. They never really worked out a good way to fix this Server imbalance.

They too did some wipes and people didn't give a shit. As you suggest player interest intensified again - because it was exciting again. And this was a game where you could fuck up your character in creation. You applied 'Runes' to your character that where very very expensive and you could easily roll a gimped character.

UO had similar issues - but more so because the player base would lull but people would have huge houses just doing nothing with no land available.

I really think Albion needs resets - obviously house upkeep is supposed to keep players logging in and actively playing to pay for all that dominated land - but fighting over the scraps of land left over from inactive accounts is no way near as cool as the Server being fresh.

It is a really hard question and because it is so Community based I can see why Publishers / Developers shy away from this style of game. You don't want to hurt/fuck/delete progression, but the players can literally paint your game into a corner with no way out.

Great video. re-installing PoE. I too felt like I wasn't playing properly unless I was playing Hardcore. I'm a dad with four young kids, sometimes I just need to instantly change my priority from the screen to my family and let my character die. Losing even a few hours work, let alone hundreds is a real turn off. I think I'm going to give soft-core another look.

Quality review as always. A shame, I was looking forward to this as I enjoyed Orcs and Men, you clearly showed me how wonky the ledge detection is though in your video, so for now I'll pass. Will probably grab this later if it gets some patching for sure.

Loved all the different insights into E3, journalism, new media vs old media, publishing. Nice to know a bit more about the Video Game Industry rather than just games. Glad to have you back TB.

As a legally blind person, my greatest frustration is people that yell out my name in a big room filled iwth other people. Or form across a shopping complex. I quietly freak out inside trying to figure out a) where they are and b) who they are

One thing you slightly touched on here which I found interesting is that the main character gives of this sense weakness, this vulnerability even though she has this kick ass time control power. She is so shy and introverted, and clearly something fucked up must've happened to her, and just getting the ability to reverse time doesn't change her. You see a few small victories, but they are so hesitant and shy you cannot help but cheering for her. I'm interested to see how her character grows, great review.

I must say though, the little analogies/witticisms you toss out are often a little too long and lose their punch. I get the style your going for here, seems like a nod to Yahtzee Chroshaw, just think you need to not drag them out, sometimes they seem too much of a mouthful.

As a legally blind gamer myself - I too really enjoy and play a lot of Diablo 3. I cannot see my action buttons or my health at all when I'm looking at my character. I have to look down and then quickly look back up to see my character and the action. I also cannot use the map, so I tend to flick the tab key to see where I am a lot. Essentially I tend to only manage my character when I'm in town. I have also learnt all the hot keys I possible can things like T for Town Portal, Q for Potion etc.I too find the fonts difficult but if I take my time in town it is OK. I too agree that health bars over your own players head would be great. Would you be able to link to Cosmo's original forum thread or YouTube comment?

Kephas, I'm also legally blind and played WoW for many years. I love MMO's, WoW especially as having a huge interface and big fonts, nice constrasted colours and a combat system that isn't twitchy is great. Love your video, and love your willingness to do the best YOU can do and be proud to show that off. I raided as a Paladin and Warlock, and I was never the greatest player ever, but my Guild would help me out by calling out things I struggled with, but still treating me like a genuine player and relying on me to main tank or do great DPS - it is some of my best gaming memories.

Hey mate. I am also legally blind and am a big fan of Wildstar right now. I love the Mode Support too as often I can find mods to change fonts, make my text bigger, give me better contrasted UI. I am currently using a mod called Ayth_Quest. It draws little dotted lines to mobs that are part of quests, or items you need making it even easier to track whats going on on the screen. For example if I have to find a Cow mob in an area with 3 or 4 different types of mobs, it will show me easily which mobs I need to focus on without straining to read nameplates.Your post and video and sheer enjoyment of Wildstar made my day as it mirrors some of my own. Thanks!
