It Is Time For Revolution
This is not a call to arms or blood shed. It is however, a call for a dramatic change in our governmental process. A change that is founded on a revolution that sweeps those in power from their positions and sets in place the beginnings of a true democracy based on the will of the people and eliminates the existing system that is built on money, special interests and individual egos.
Recent events, not just those of the last few days but those of the last few years, have proven that the system of governance conceived by our founding fathers is no longer viable. Frankly, those principles could not have foreseen a world complicated by the massive power of such things as overwhelming societal needs, geopolitics and corporate self interest.
The starting point of this revolution is a grassroots fueled ultimatum (all successful revolutions start with the “people”) demanding the resignation of all members of Congress effective at the completion of regularly scheduled elections next November. Few could argue that it is proper to expect resignation from those who have failed so miserably at their job. There are no exceptions and the existing politicians will be ineligible to run for re-election. Congress, Republicans and Democrats alike, will be swept from office and replaced by a new breed of politicians less influenced by corporate giving and re-election. This next generation of representatives will be limited to a single four year term in office. The agenda of all election campaigns will be focused on proving how a nominee will best serve the interest of the Country and not focus on the imagined short-comings of an opponent.
During the year between now and the effective resignation date of all current members of Congress, that body will have a single task. They will be charged with establishing an election system that is free from special interests. This is an optimistic goal but perhaps, since the existing members have no chance to pursue future political aspirations, they will act in the best interest of the people and not in the best interest of getting re-elected. Recent events could easily repute this assumption but perhaps just enough of the existing representatives would recognize the importance of this inflection point to put aside their personal motivations and create truly meaningful fair election legislation.
It is a fair question to ask if such a sweeping Resignation Revolution would result in meaningful change. The answer could be as simple as, it couldn’t be any worse than what currently exists. But, there is still a basic optimism that, given the opportunity to serve in a refreshed environment, true patriots will rise to the surface to represent the broad spectrum of beliefs that make this country great. These patriots will recognize their responsibility to make the future of the United States their sole and primary motivation. Those patriots will restore the faith of the people. A faith that their voice is clearly heard above the call of self-serving special interests.
There is no successful business in history that would not demand the resignations of leaders who have routinely demonstrated their inability to perform their job. This revolution may not start today, but if it doesn’t start soon the damage done by ineffective leadership will be impossible to overcome. The existing system has failed and the future health of the Nation hangs in the balance. The seeds of revolution have been planted.
