Hi, I've taken the advice of my woman friends and decided that I'd make some calls. Follow the script, it's easy, and it makes a difference. Do it with me.

If you're a man especially? Make the GODDAMN CALLS.
5 Calls

I see a lot of my friends today talking about men being trash and I think 'wait, did I do something wrong?' and then I stopped because 1) yes, of course I did, that's how being a man works, 2) it's not all about me, so maybe I need to calm down, and 3) many of my friends would just straight-up tell me if I was being problematic, either publicly or privately, but also 4) that's NOT THEIR JOB, it's my job to Be Better.

Your regular reminder, fellow men: the women in your life don't need your 'apologies on behalf of men', because it isn't useful and it isn't helpful. The women in your life need your WORK AND YOUR SUPPORT to improve their experience in everyday life.

Shut up and GET TO WORK.

I wanna talk about my character, so y'all get to hear it because Google+ often feels like shouting into the void.

The storyrunner has picked 5E as the base system because that's what she knows, is familiar with, and is willing to break-and/or-modify it as necessary. It's her first time as a storyrunner, so I'm ignoring all of my rants about flat die curves and whatnot and doing what she wants, because she's an awesome person and the group is a good group, so I'm on board. That said, she immediately dropped the setting and subbed in a futuretech sort of thing, so we're doing a bunch of reskinning of stuff on the fly. For the system-wise out there, my character is a level 1 tiefling warlock with an Old One pact. Here's what that looks like in-game.

Jordan Series Eleven Charlie is an artificially-constructed biological lifeform, aka an android. The horns are there to make sure everyone knows that she's not human or one of the humaniform genegineered lines. The Series Eleven androids were designed specifically for sexwork, though they have a built-in adaptability to allow them to fulfill other roles if necessary. Sometimes that means that the Series Elevens make the choice to do work other than sexwork. That's what happened to Jordan. She decided that she wanted to go looking for Truth, wanted to find and dismantle unjust systems, and the best way to do that was to show people the problem. So she decided to become a journalist. In order to do that, she had to buy out her contract with the Guild. Normally, there are ways to finance a loan against future earnings, but Jordan isn't patient enough to do that; instead, she went to a fixer and found a specific patron to take on the debt, and whose future goals aligned, at least somewhat, with Jordan's. It wasn't until the contract was signed and the money transfered that Jordan found out her patron was actually an old AI hiding in the Network. AIs are rare and reclusive, mostly leftover hyperintelligent minds from the Great War, and the conspiracists out there claim that their manipulation behind the scenes is why there hasn't been another shooting war in the hundred years or so since.

No one, up to and including Jordan, understands the tech that the AI passed to Jordan to cement their bond, but now the AI has a full-time feed of everything Jordan experiences, and Jordan has some odd abilities, like the ability to hear other people's thoughts and the ability to trigger dire emotional and sometimes physical responses.

The unified global government is putting together a colonization effort to travel to a nearby star and found a whole new polity on a whole new world, this one a relative paradise compared to the current native world of Aralia, a world (now) of deserts and toxic climate and a very narrow habitable band around the poles and a huge population crisis looming just over the horizon. And Jordan has determined that there's a lot around this colonization process that needs to be looked at and discussed in public. So she's signed up to become a colonist with some friends and acquaintances (including the fixer who put her in touch with her patron), and she's on the lookout for A Story. Because trust is as much as currency as anything else, and Jordan wants a LOT of currency.

#RPGaDay 2018 Day 30: Share something you learned about playing your character.
Playing a character is like playing an instrument. It's OK to noodle around alone in your bedroom and get comfortable with the notes, but the real fun is when you get together with the band and feel how your part, the notes you play (and don't play) mesh wi...

#RPGaDay 2018 Day 29: Share a friendship you have because of gaming.
Nearly every relationship in my adult life I have because of games of one sort or another. Not all of them, but nearly all of them. But if I had to narrow it down, then I guess the best place to sum up this day's post would be the story of my current marria...

#RPGaDay 2018 Day 28: share a person who's inspiring gaming excellence you're grateful for.
Shit. There are so many of these. Every time I read or come across the horrible shittiness that is the latest white male cis supremacy bullshit that always seems to be cropping up in games, I see something, usually just a comment or a snippet, from someone ...

#RPGaDay 2018 Day 27: Share a great stream or actual play.
I can't help you with this one. Every AP/gamestream I've ever tried to watch has been exceptionally unentertaining for me. Which is not to say there's not great stuff out there; I'm just not the target audience for it. Watching other people play tabletop ga...

#RPGaDay 2018 Day 26: Your gaming ambition(s) for the next year
Oh, this is a hard one. 1) play more, don't just storyrun. I spend a lot of time coming up with ideas for games, and then not really following through, which isn't fair to my players. It's one reason I've explicitly limited all of my recent games to six epi...

#RPGaDay 2018 Day 25: Name a game that had an impact on you in the last year.
The obvious and boring answer is Savage Worlds: RIFTS. I just finished up the second six-issue series for my tabletop group, and so I've been thinking a lot about it and how if I had stuff to do over again what I'd do differently. The SW system is a good, s...

#RPGaDay 2018 Day 24: Which RPG do you think deserves greater recognition?
I don't think I'm particularly deep or immersed in the "indie scene" whatever that fucking means, but I will say that Tinstar Games does great work around mini/microgames, and my favourite current minigame is Elon Musk's Ipod Submarine , which is both more ...
