Lumbung Nuswantara is an independent think-action organization that inspires and demonstrates a better life and well being for all human and nature
The Lumbung Nuswantara’s mission is to conceive, create, communicate, and catalyze new social cultural practices toward a just and sustainable world. We uniquely combine vision, theory, action, and communication to effect a transition to a new way of social cultural engagement based on the ideal of Gerjitowati — a social structure that gives priority to supporting human well-being and Earth’s natural systems. Our multidisciplinary approach employs research, applied theory, public campaigns, and educational events to describe an alternative socio-economic system that is capable of addressing the enormous challenges of our times. Our premise is that a fair and sustainable economy is possible and that ways must be found to realize it.
The Lumbung Nuswantara was created to broaden and accelerate the development of new social economy thinking that can lead to solutions for the great challenges of the millenium.
The havoc wrought by our recent global financial crisis has vividly demonstrated the deficiencies in our outdated current economic theories, and shown the need for new way thinking in economy and social engagement – right now.
Lumbung Nuswantara is supporting this fundamental shift in socio-economic thinking through research funding, community building, and spreading the word about the need for change.
Lumbung Nuswantara is a fusion of at least three major stream of thinking of (1) Resource-based Economy introduced by Jacques Fresco (2) The Revelopment of Amal Madeena (Gerjito-wati) by Ian Dallas (now known as Shaykh Abdalqadir As-Sufi) and (3) Its meta-narrative taken from Jayabaya and the entire Nuswantara exploration by Herman S. Janutama.
Lumbung also benefited from Hidayat Nataatmadja and Soedjatmoko thinking.
