A comfy atmosphere attracts a laid-back neighborhood crowd to this cash-only pub famed for burgers.- Google
"Hands down, best burger in NYC. Bacon cheese burger and cottage fries."
"Might have a slight edge over Corner Bistro--but it's sooo close!"

We went here based on celebrity Kelly Ripa's recommendation. We weren't that impressed. The burgers and coin sized French fries were good but the experience was basic. The waitress was bland and not very welcoming. Maybe she was having an off day I suppose. The older man at the front acting as a hostess (owner maybe?) was rude and didn't seem interested in answering our quick questions when we were talking directly to him. He heard us and walked in another direction. I'd give this place a second try but our first experience was very much so-so. Another annoyance was it's CASH ONLY policy. Really? In the year 2015 no time warp. Especially when we're already switching over to mobile payments. I'd rather pay an extra $1-2 for the convenience of not having to find an ATM. Next time I'll sit at the bar though because the bartender and guests seemed to be having a great time.

Definitely an old timers joint that is an institution in the city. Very similar to Minetta in that you would fully expect patrons to have been coming here every day for thirty years. Also like Minetta, I found the burger very overhyped. My medium had no pink at all and while the meat was good and it wasn't covered in toppings, I found it a bit plain. The simple raw onion, lettuce, and pickles let the burger speak on its own, but I couldn't help think it could have used a bit more seasoning. Service is very 90s New York still with a bit brusque waiters so don't expect much conversation. The beer menu was heartbreaking with Sam Adams being the most exciting option. Cash only but there is a Chase ATM in the Duane Reade next door. For $12 the burger at Upland, or 2 Shake Shack burgers are a much better deal.

J.G. Melon is good for steak and burger lovers! It's what J.G. Melon is known for and maybe for a drink or two. The service however, was lacking in all regards. We were ignored for a long time and service was extremely painful. One lady who came into J.G. Melon by herself was ignored for about 15 minutes. Once she was seated, she was invisible for another 15 minutes and just walked out. Customers are not to be ignored since it's the bread of butter of any business.

Of the places in the city that do a great classic burger (high on quality basics, low on pretentiousness and distracting novelty), this has got to be among the top few. Meaty, cheesy, good

Always a good time. Try the clasic burger, you won't be disappointed. An UES legond.

My girlfriend and I were snubbed and treated very poorly here. I will never be back. They have no formal host stand, so I waded through the busy bar to the restaurant section in the rear of the establishment. An older, heavy-set man with glasses (wearing a plain navy blue polo) rudely asked, "can I help you?" I wasn't sure if I bumped him so I said, "I'm sorry, yes, do you work here?" He rudely scoffed and retorted, " Why else would I ask if I can help you?" He proceeded to take my name and then made another condescending comment when I spelled my name for him (as a courtesy). This man has zero customer service skills and has lost my business. We decided to eat at Bear Burger down the street instead. MUCH better choice :) Much healthier and MUCH better customer service.

Very average place when it comes to burgers. I have seen so many times long lines in front of the pub so of course I will set high expectations. I was very disappointed when I tried the burgers yesterday. I can name at least 10 places with better burgers and this is without even thinking. Do no wait in line for this place. Not worth it. Oh forgot, also bring cash because probably they do no like paying taxes!

The best burger on the East Coast. True, traditional American burger. Goes great with a classic Budweiser or two. Must get cottage fries on the side-- large enough to share :D
