Great article on scaling issues at Tumblr, as well as a link to a set of slides hosted at O'Reilly by Tumblr that explain Sharding (think DB).

Yeah - new company is called Excella Consulting and it's totally awesome. I know you believe me when I say that working under good leadership is a top 3 factor for job satisfaction for me, and this place has not disappointed. The quality of the people and the transparency of the organization are at a caliber I never thought I would find in the consulting world. Also, it's ~100 people and 10 years old, so it still has an awesome (Cav. Daily-esque) small business feel.

If you're ever looking for a job in DC, I would highly recommend you give this place a look. A couple of my coworkers here exhibit what I call "very SBelyea like qualities."

Also, I'm sort of on a housing hunt now. There's not a day that goes by that I don't wish I could room with you again, buddy.

But - we've got a lot more to catch up on than Google+ can handle. Any plans to be in DC sometime soon? It would be great to grab a drink and do this right.

Pretty fascinating article on Unicode and UTF. Worth the 10 minutes it takes to read, and helps you understand why you may see ? and every once in a while.

A List Apart has a great intro on using SASS (Syntatically Awesome Style Sheets).

If you're interested in web design, SASS is one of the better ways to create your style sheets. It's similar to CSS, but allows you to automagically generate browser specific CSS without having to hand type each one (think mozilla-, webkit- prefixes) (among many other things).

Let's not forgot how most projects turn out. Definitely takes some effort to avoid this.

MIT to offer an online learning curriculum similar to Stanford - and allow you to receive actual credentials for completing their courses. Meet MITx.

Nice! I'm definitely going to check these out. Would probably be nice to put on a resume, even if it's just a "certificate." Just realized we could take a class together ZOMG.

Great insights in this article. Apple and Android have changed the game by separating the OS from the traditional hardware manufacturer (although in Apple's case its debatable). Remains to be seen if Siri is really as revolutionary as we think.

Business Week had a fantastic issue on Steve Jobs. Check out some of the pages (notice the layout, typography):
