Turns out shooting waves, even right at the waters edge is harder than I expected it to be. Perhaps I should have used my macro lens instead?

While shooting sunrises on Hamilton Island, it was so warm and pleasant even at 6am that taking time to play around was fun to do. I have seen some great closeup shots of surf as it foams and bubbl...

Working on processing my images of Hamilton Island, it might have been small but was a great place to take a camera, and even in the insane heat, climbing small mountains and getting up for pretty sunrises.

Its amazing what you can do with just a copy of Lightroom these days and an image shot in RAW - two images, a before and an after compared and an explanation of how I got there
My first entry for the weekly AB Friday Challenge - woohoo! This is the AFTER image above. This image is of Passage Peak on Hamilton Island in Australia where I went recently for a conference.  Bec...

Yes there was indeed life BP - Before Photography!
Before I discovered photography I spent a long time playing in the world of fractals.  Its fascinating and amazingly pretty and artistic.  Along the way I found a program called Xenodream that did ...

When everything that could possibly go wrong with installing SSD in my computer DID!   #photography #dam #backupyourdata #backupyourbackups
Well I haven't had to do this for a while - loading ALL my programs onto a fresh new computer install! Never fails to surprise me just how many programs I do use for all the different things and ho...

I had a backup, I stupidly managed to overwrite it, and i also have a NAS
but that had to be firmware updated and I hadn't updated the backup on
there recently.

In all fairness this is the first major data loss I have ever had, cos I'm
paranoid and usually careful but with added stress of a major exam right
before Xmas and getting sick on holiday for three weeks it all got out of
whack.

Good news is I didn't lose my images and have a reasonably recent backup of
my lightroom catalog, that would have been upsetting.

A friend has a big gun safe and is ok to let me store an offsite backup
disk there to, so long as I regularly update that the worst I should lose
again would be a months worth.

It is a pain to manage once you start to get into terabytes of data to
manage tho!

I climbed a small mountain in extremely hot conditions and nearly melted but I think the view from the top was worth it!

So many people commented on the colour version of my March One Four Wk 1 image that I got my act together and processed this image. The third day of the conference was planned for activities, both ...

Last week of the Feb One Four image editing challenge - take one image and edit it four ways each week of the month - my tiger image caused me some challenges with removing the big rock last week, so this week is QUITE different

Last week for the Feb One Four Challenge and I had this idea about combining the tiger with chinese characters in some way, given that tigers come from Asia. After looking online I found this image...

Fun with Lee Big Stopper at sunrise on Hamilton Island - hard to imagine it was only a week ago I was there for a conference!

Loving playing with the dark glass and experimenting with longer and longer times, the new 7D Mk2 with the timer on the bulb function makes this SO MUCH EASIER!!

You may have noticed a lot of reposted articles recently, I was away at a conference in Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays of the northeast cost of Australia. For this southern lass it was VERY hot...

How do we help our fellow artists learn grow and improve by offering honest critique in a world that doesn't really seem to want it?

Why are there no Dislike buttons?  Or Could Be Better buttons?

(Warning, this is long!) We have an interesting relationship with the rest of the world, us artists.  Pouring our time and energy into our creations and releasing them into the wild, waiting and ho...

Heading to Aussie (from NZ)  a couple of times soon and having major issues trying to find travel insurance for my kit.  I want to take the precious stuff on board with me but things like my backup body and cheaper lenses to be packed and checked in.

Except ALL the insurance options I have found now have fine print saying they wont cover any camera/electronic gear thats checked!!!

I can't carry all of it, cos it weighs too much (and if they pull me will insist on checking it )

Can anyone advise who they are using for camera travel kit - for a total of about $10 k of kit and some of it will neeed to be covered for checked luggage, flying NZ to AUS

Used to use Southern Cross but not an option now, luckily I know to read the fineprint for this kind of thing.

TIA

Haven't flown internationally for a while, but in Oz Tiger weigh anything that looks sus (but don't check size, annoyingly), and Jetstar do the same sometimes. You might have more trouble getting out of Melb than into it...
