After Putin and others warned of fascists and jew haters taking over Ukraine, it seems the pot may have been talking to the kettle...
Jews over 16 in the Ukrainian city of Donetsk are being told to pay a special tax and register their identities with the pro-Russian militants who have taken over the town, according to multiple reports.

Data. Business. Win.

I didn't hear it mentioned here, but I recently heard UPS has used this data mining to try to eliminate left turns - even when having to travel longer routes if the turns aren't left gas use drops significantly due to idling waiting to cross traffic.
A typical UPS truck now has hundreds of sensors on it. That's changing the way UPS drivers work — and it foreshadows changes coming for workers throughout the economy.

Food for thought.
Absolutely love the stand your ground-gun death chart. That there is a brilliant piece of chart creation.
Data visualization is one of the most important tools we have to analyze data. But it's just as easy to mislead as it is to educate using charts and graphs. In this article we'll take a look at 3 of the most common ways in which visualizations can be misleading.

My wife, who does a fair amount of data presentation, looked at the Florida gun death chart and observed that it was evil.

I have a good friend that works for GM, and most of the employees had nothing to do with these problems... but you know what? GM can just suck it.

This could lead to... things... and stuff... cool things. cool stuff.
A team of Chinese scientists did an impossible-sounding thing. They created electricity simply by dragging a droplet of saltwater across a layer of graphene. No big fires, no greenhouse gases, no fuss. They created energy with just a miracle material and one of the most plentiful substances on Earth.

Oof. Things move fast.
Those troops you saw in science fiction movies as a child are now real. A few years ago, many countries recognized a need to upgrade the individual infantryman and thus started their own "future soldier" programs. Most of them completed more or less the main priority objectives, applying them to some of their elite troops and special forces, bringing together commercial, off-the-shelf technology and state of the art military gear and equipment.

Themed engagement photos are thing now?
Rob Cruickshank found Paul Hillier's set of Bladerunner-themed engagement photos. He adds, "I do think the bride and groom should have taken Voight-Kampffs though, just to be sure." Blade Runner inspired engagement shoot

For your pondering
It may be a while before space elevators become a reality, but that doesn't mean it's too early to start trying. Recently, the head of Google X's Rapid Evaluation team confirmed that its secretive R&D lab actually tried to design one — but fell short on account of one major technological hurdle.

WIN
Last week, NASA astronaut Steve Swanson sent the first Instagram from space. It was a selfie, naturally, taken before the ISS cupola. But what caught our eye wasn't Swanson's handsome mug or the view of Earth. It was Swanson's shirt, which features a familiar spacecraft and the words: "Shipping & Logistics: Everything's Shiny."
