On Dec. 31, 2013, I found what I thought to be a perfect SUV for me. It had the right price, the right year, the right amount of miles. The photos showed the interior to be clean as a whistle. I live in Wooster, OH; which is only about 30 minutes from there. But knowing that on the holiday eve they would probably close early, I called the dealership. I asked as to what time they closed and asked if they still had the vehicle in stock that I was interested in. I understand they cannot hold a vehicle for you and I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is that the saleslady on the other end of the phone assured me that they did indeed still have the vehicle and wanted to know if I would like to set up an appt. for that day. This led me to believe that they were extremely busy and that if I did go to the dealership prior to my 1:00 PM appt. she gave me, that I would be hard pressed to find anyone to help me. Therefore; I waited to leave so I could reach the dealership at the correct time, which I did. As I get out of the car, I am greeted by whom I found out later to be the used car manager and another salesman. I told them who I was to see and what SUV I was interested in, and lo and behold; right in front of me is the vehicle I am interested in, but has already been sold. I am still furious with this dealership. I specifically told her that I did not want to make the trip if the vehicle was not going to be there. She assured me that it wouldn't be a problem. If the saleslady hadn't made it sound like I wouldn't have been helped right away if I left right after the phone call; I would have left right then and could have purchased the vehicle I wanted. So after much discussion and waiting, they produced another vehicle; same make and model, same year, less miles (not by much), that they could possible work a deal out to be similar to what I had planned on spending on the other vehicle. I drove it, felt fine, liked the color, was not as clean inside as the other one, but I probably would have bought it. They new exactly how much I was approved for by my credit union, and how much I was willing to put down. So, after reading this far what do you think happened? Well, they just couldn't get it down to the price I needed to be at. I honestly believe they were trying a bait and switch tactic. They brought out 2 other cars, same make and model, but different years and mileage. And of course, they were either filthy inside and scratched on the outside or they were even more money. I will never go back to this dealership again and suggest to anyone who does to be very careful of their sales tactics. It felt good to vent and I hope I have helped someone from making a mistake or having the wool pulled over their eyes.
