Twisted Light

Pretty amazing. A corkscrew shape slows light down... and who knew a femtosecond was the measurable impact?

And the Winner Is...

Nobody. Sounds like there are quite a few losers, tho.

Are you vested?

Over the last year and a half a number of prominent voices in the Bitcoin community have been warning that the system needed to make fundamental changes to its core software code to avoid being...

It's an expensive cook timer and weather reporter. Going beyond that requires the same kind of discipline programmers apply when learning emacs. I already have a job and a hobby, so put me in the "meh" column.

Font Obsession

This one's for you, +Brian Byrne. :)

Mim? New fonts generally are released for use at cost. In this case, they expect you will likely use it for printed material, internal PowerPoint's etc. (specifically, in this case, as a 'personal' font). You can also buy a web use license (if I remember correctly) so that you can use it on your web site.

Pretty much the old school way fonts have been distributed.

Addicted to Amazon Prime?

Do you count on 2-day shipping?
We’ve generally considered Amazon Prime to be the best deal in technology. But, alas: It’s about to get slightly more annoying to use, and I am irrationally upset about it.

Getting Ready...

Candles, anyone?
In the modern world, the threat of space weather is far greater as storms like the Carrington Event of 1859 pose a risk to interconnected power grids, airline operations, satellites and communications networks across the globe.

WWW: Wood Wide Web

And hackers, too?

Excerpted:

And much like the human internet, outsiders are unwelcome. Plants compete with each other for crucial resources like water and light. In an effort to gain an advantage, some release harmful chemicals that are intended to destroy their rivals, what scientists refer to as allelopathy. Essentially, plants hack each other.

Pretty fascinating, lots of implications.

So is this why companion planting works?
