I have a habit of doing this once a year, sometimes more. I detoxed enough this time from the online world that I became nearly non-existent in August. This term, I'm taking an online Social Media Marketing class, which I'm happy to report - I'm quite enthused about and enjoying.

I've been online since the mid-90's and seen a lot of things come, go, change. Over time, I realized I couldn't continue using the online world which such reckless abandon as I had in the beginning. I used to write as much in my own journals as I did online, but as technology made it easier - less and less in paper journals.

And...as a result...I began to forget that the point of having those is that there are things that are best kept their - my rough draft moments - then to air/vent it all. While people may be fond of citing freedom of speech...I also had to remind myself that I was raised with manners. That while yes, freedom of speech, I don't have to exercise it in a way that has the potential to harm or offend others. While at some point offense will no doubt be taken as opinions rub up against each other...I had started to take on a voice that I didn't particularly care for.

So...re-routing, re-thinking, and slowly moving back into the online realm after my extensive Social Media Detox.

I dropped from FB for over a year more or less, though have recently made a new - more intimate version - one where the people there are people I enjoy engaging in conversation with and who don't leave me scratching my head wondering at the things they post with strangers.

Members in my own family have horrified me on FB. Thanks to FB, I know more things about people and family I'm sure they would never share in a face-to-face setting. One of my biggest issues with returning to FB was privacy. As this article addresses...it does have an uncanny way of knowing things that I never discussed. And I suppose...now I know why and will take measures to guard against such intimate knowledge of my activities. ;)

Do I do this? Yes, sometimes. But I use no flash and only if it's something I'm recommending for those stopping into try on check-in or food specific apps. But...I can see both sides of the issue. #food #photography

Despite having mad fingers of chaos, I do enjoy having Dragon as an alternative to being tied to the keys. It's a hit with our students who utilize it. #speechrecognition   #software   #Dragon12
