What is CyberPatriot?

CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program.  At the center of CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. The competition puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. Students learn computer networking, computer troubleshooting, digital forensics, computer security, and much more through CyberPatriot. Learn more about the CyberPatriot Program by reading the official CyberPatriot How It Works (PDF).

What is a CyberPatriot Exhibition Round?

The Exhibition Rounds are for recruiting CyberPatriot participants as well as introducing parents and community leaders to the CyberPatriot Program. These rounds are also designed to give Coaches and Competitors a feel for the online competition rounds. These exhibitions rounds are hands on the keyboard experiences for students interested in learning more about CyberPatriot. Past participants will be there to answer questions and demonstrate some of the skills used during CyberPatriot competition rounds.

As parents you will learn about local CyberPatriot competition team opportunities that your child may be able to participate in sponsored by the Home School Support Network (HSSN) Online Academy. Both our high school and middle school teams did very well during the 2014-15 school year. There were a total of 46 teams in SC and over 2200 teams nationwide competing in CyberPatriot this past year.

What is the Home School Support Network Online Academy?

The Home School Support Network (HSSN) is an online resource offering computer classes that prepare students for competitions like CyberPatriot. We also teach skills that will be useful for any student regardless of their future academy, professional, or ministry plans. The skills we teach are applicable to anyone who wants to advance their knowledge of computers and boost their resume to help them be more hirable.

What are the benefits of participating and commitment level required?

Benefits: Participants in the competition teams have a potential of earning scholarships. Participants gain skills and experience that can enhance their resume to set them apart from other candidates and better qualify them for scholarships, jobs, and paid internships.

Commitment: Competition teams will be formed from enrolled HSSN students. Competitors will get much of their training over the Internet using online meeting tools. (Adobe Connect and Videos) Competition team members will be required to attend 1-2 competition and/or practice events in person the months of November 2015 - March 2016. These events last between 4-6 hours. Parents are welcome to observe during these events.
