Filmed in Uptown in 1916. Starring stage actor William Gillette, an American actor, has long been considered the world's foremost interpreter of Holmes on stage.
It's no mystery that Donald Terras is excited about the recent discovery of a long-lost movie filmed in Chicago starring stage actor William Gillette as Sherlock Holmes.

What your political betters REALLY think of you:

“Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage,” says the MIT economist who helped write Obamacare. “And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical for the thing to pass.”
In a newly surfaced video, an Obamacare architects admits a "lack of transparency" helped the administration and Democrats pass the Affordable Care Act.

Good to see the costs of this Seattle minimum wage hike made explicit.
Last week I blogged about SeaTac employers who have responded to the new $15 minimum wage law by reducing or eliminating the benefits workers receive. Employees earning the new wage say they have lost benefits such as 401k, paid holidays, paid vacation, free food, free parking and overtime hours ...

Clockmaker John Harrison vindicated 250 years after ‘absurd’ claims

Greenwich observatory scientists revealed that a clock that had been built to the clockmaker’s exact specifications had run for 100 days during official tests and had lost only five-eighths of a second in that period.

The Swiss chronometer watch test requires that a #chronometer  watch not deviate from correct time by -4 to +6 seconds in a 24 hour period, so this Harrison clock design is significantly more accurate that an chronometer.
The pendulum clock of Longitude hero John Harrison is tested and declared a masterpiece

Don't over analyze it. Children are great. Have some.
If you wait for the perfect time when you have ample amounts of cash and the perfect house, you’ll never have children.

This is stunning and amazingly sad. Each post shows a street view of a Detroit location using Google or Bing. Keep in mind that there are only 5 years between the first photos in a series and the last.
