I'm looking for a Stir Plate that can handle a 5-Liter Flask.  I have one of those home made types with the magnets on a computer fan, but it just doesn't want to work very well.  It seems like it is constantly losing the stir bar on me as soon as I walk away.  So I'm looking for something better, anyone have any recommendations on something that can do a 5-Liter with no problems I would love to hear them.
Thanks

Time to sit back and enjoy the results for a while.

Oh right 1070. That's great then that your only seeing a couple of degrees f increase. I would have expected to see more of a difference.
Still would be interesting to see what a similar gravity wort would do with a 20 gallon batch.

Prime example of the phrase "They don't make things like they used to"  This glut era Old Taylor 6  is so freaking delicious, it was sad to finish of this little guy tonight.

So I took my first foray into home made hot sauce.

A friend gave me a bag of serrano peppers, so knowing I couldn't possibly eat all of them I decided to give hot sauce I try.  I made 2 batches
#1 - Straight pepper sauce
10 peppers
1 cup white vinegar
2 cloves minced garlic
2 tbs seasalt

#2 - Pineapple pepper sauce
12 peppers
1/2 a fresh pineapple
1 cup white vinegar
1 clove mince garlic
2 tbs seasalt

I made both recipes the same way, mixed all the ingredients, boiled for about 15 minutes, then blended them until they were mostly liquid.

I was afraid of them being to hot so I de seeded all of the peppers and tried to make sure the mixture of vinegar to hot was high.

I was very happy with the results, both sauces came out better than I expected, I was worried that the 2 bottles might be sitting around in the fridge for years, instead they are both already very low after 1 big meal with my friends.  I can't wait to make the next batch, I could see getting addicted to this, like I need another hobby.

I got to try a bunch of your hot sauces last night, they were all pretty good.   I especially liked the two Curry flavored versions and the jerk were my favorites.  The only one I was a bit iffy on was the one with the japanese name, it wasn't bad just no where near as good as the rest.

My brewstand with the recently added Blichmann Tower of Power.  I can't recommend the tower enough, it works great and keeps me from screwing up my mash temp while trying to maintain it manually.

I'm in the process of designing a new brewery and the Tower of Power is going to be the brains behind it, I would like to concentrate on the beer rather than the process, it sounds like it will be a good decision.

I think I have a Hop Addiction.  I live in the midwest and brew outside, so I generally stop brewing from Middle of December to early March.  Its nice in a way to have the break to do a major tear down of the my rig and make any improvement or adjustments at this time, this winter I'm adding the blichmann tower of power for added mash controls.  Also I get to sit back and enjoy the fruits of my labor and make sure I don't get to far ahead of myself on the beer.  Today being a lazy Sunday with nothing real important to do I decided to do inventory, All totaled up I had 10.5lbs of Pellets and 3lbs of Leaf hops in the freezer.  I then had to stop myself from ordering some more because I was out of a couple of my favorite varieties.  I even made it a point this year to lay off the 2012 fall crop until I used up what I have, and did a 10oz dry hop this morning on the last batch of IPA I brewed before the snow hit.  I use my Hop Rocket as a Randle so much I"m considering a second one.  Whenever I see a new hop variety I find it extremely difficult to pass it up.  Any one else out there finding they are becoming completely addicted to hops?

i have always been a hop head. when i first started brewing i would order extra hops and just leave them open in my room as an air freshener.

i dont really keep back stock of stuff though so i cant say that i have almost 14lbs of the stuff laying around. i do however gravitate towards beer with a high IBU and end up spending a lot hops for each brew.
