Wakefield, England – The year 2004
Bathmates Inventor John Oakes recalls how bathmate came in to being, a friend of Johns had had a serious spinal injury meaning he could no longer gain and maintain an erection, John an expert in hydraulic engineering looked at the products that were currently available on the market and thought he could do a lot better. How right he was, John invented the world’s first penis pump designed to be used specifically in water creating hydraulic pressure around the penis.
John says” hydraulic pressure is uniform and even unlike air which when pressurised become spongy and inconsistent, the key to bathmates success is the consistent pressure our pumps produce giving consistent results.”
John gave the first edition bathmate to his friend and the results were nothing short of amazing, this led John to believe there was a market for his invention...
Wakefield, England – Today
Bathmate was launched onto the market in 2006. At that time the Bathmate was manufactured in a small factory in Wakefield, England, but by 2010 the sales were reaching such high levels additional manufacturing space was needed. The whole operation was relocated to new factory in Dewsbury – just a few miles from Wakefield – in the summer of 2010.
In 2012 more new products were brought to the market, including the Hydromax X 30. This latest Hydromax water pump was fitted with a new design of bellows made from a “state of the art” Elastomer. This provided Hydromax X30, when used in water, the maximum negative vacuum pressure allowed by the medical authorities, making it the most powerful and at the same time safest penis pump on the market.
These new products were introduced to the market in October 2012, initial sales outstripped production capacity, clearly the Hydromax was what the market had been waiting for, sales rapidly grew all over the world, bathmate is now sold in seventy countries a truly global brand
In 2013 further new products were added to the Hydromax range, including the X40 and then the latest “Super Pump”, the Xtreme. All this put the manufacturing facility under pressure once more and a further relocation became necessary. A four acre site in Wakefield, one hundred metres from Bathmate’s original home, proved ideal: an existing factory three times the size of the Dewsbury site already existed, the site also has acres of land to expand the factory if need be.
The site was purchased and the new factory refurbished during the autumn of 2013, UM products total investment in the site and the latest manufacturing technology totalled over £1 million. The whole operation moved from Dewsbury just prior to Christmas last year. The foresight in purchasing the four acres of land along with the factory soon became very apparent. During the refurbishment period sales had once again increased significantly, and even as the manufacturing operation were moving in during December 2013 plans were already being made for building a substantial extension to the factory.
The story doesn’t end there UM Products have several new products ready to launch the first of these is the bathmate Hydro douche which will be available to order on the first of July.
Tim Brown Brand Manager at bathmate explains the reasons behind the development of the Hydro douche, Tim says “Douches have been around for a long time, but like a lot of products there hasn’t been any significant steps forward in design or materials.
