Day Three -

Monaco  - Fun Times. - Top-down room crawl game.

I can’t tell if this game is low-fi or fooling everyone by pretending to. The graphics are really deceiving, but in a good way. Great line-of-site game-play, effects as well as overall atmosphere (sounds and lighting). The controls are really simple to use (ASWD) and the iconology is intuitive and engaging. :) What I really like about this game is it’s use of instructions within the game itself. There’s no tool tips popping up trying to explain things. They’re stenciled into the floor of the rooms you go into. That’s pretty nice.

Play solo or with friends (up-to 3 others). I won’t spoil the premise if you’ve not seen what it’s about yet.

It’s available on Steam for a modest price.

Day two -

Run Rabbit Run! - Umm......

What I love about this game? What’s not to like?? Clearly stylish and simple art, music that goes great with the game, AND....a bunny getting ground up when you don’t get things right. There aren’t many buttons to press and the concept is pretty straight-forward.

The colour scheme in this game and choice for very stylized artwork sets it apart, but I just love the idea that there are twirling blades of death at every encounter! It’s like little red riding hood meets Tim Burton.

Created with Construct2 it's an easy load in HTML5 on most browsers.

I have a feeling I’m going to be putting a lot of quarters into this one. :)

Day one -

CCatch - Like Tetris meets Brick Breaker meets Pong.

What I love about this game is how simple it is in its conception, but difficult to master. High on the replayability scale and very addictive. Even if you’re a little colour blind like me, you won’t find it hard to pick out the things you’re supposed to catch.

For me the music is what really gets me going on this one. I can see how it might be pretty irritating to some because of it’s retro style, but it’s like being a connoisseur of fine aged wine for an old-school gamer. It’s up-beat and right on the money. In fact, it’s the thing that motivates me to move through and last a little longer in the game, cause I want to hear what the whole track sounds like. Love it!

What I don’t like? On the desktop the controls seem to keep going off the play area and your paddle stops moving until you pick the mouse up and try to re-balance the game-play again. Unfortunately I couldn’t get it to play on my mobile phone.

Great concept overall though, and looking forward to exploring more of this game Dev’s work!
