Introduction

“People simply want to be heard. I’m in the incredibly fortunate position not just to listen to them, but to be the person who passes their stories on to others.”

Lauren Zakalik came to Albuquerque in November 2010 from Lansing, Michigan.

“The people are here are incredibly friendly. I’ve always thought Midwesterners took the cake, but New Mexicans are the nicest people I’ve met.”

You’ll see Lauren on Action 7 News uncovering a variety of stories around the Land of Enchantment.

The award-winning journalist was named the 2009 Best Reporter by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and Best Reporter in 2008 by the Associated Press, all while at WILX-TV. She was also a Washington, D.C. correspondent for the Lansing station.

Lauren earned a Master’s Degree from Northwestern University’s prestigious Medill School of Journalism after getting a Bachelors Degree from the University of Michigan.

A world traveler, she lived in Spain and spent a lot of time in Turkey (“my favorite spot on earth”). She also does volunteer work for Parkinson’s Disease foundations.

Lauren is very active, having played competitive softball for 20 years. She also love to run and play tennis in the warmth of the New Mexico sun.

“New Mexico is just stunning, diverse, and unique. It offers so much. Plus I’m addicted to spicy food. Green chiles are my new favorite food group.”
