Yumiko is a dancer's dream- custom leotards, made exactly how want them. The store is small but brightly lit, with leotards lining the walls. The employees are friendly and will offer suggestions on building your leo but won't push you. The selection of colors, styles, and fabrics is fantastic- but you can always choose a ready-made leotard as well. I went there to choose a leotard for someone else and the employees were gregarious and chatted with me as we worked together to create the perfect gift. A must for any dancer visiting New York!

A wonderful little Russian shop in Briarwood! They offer a good variety of imported Russian foods, including the darling New Year candy boxes in the holiday season. Berezka is the perfect place to stop by to pick up a CCCP ice cream bar in the heat of summer. The employees can be a bit gruff, but it's worth it for a taste of home.

Not the friendliest place to shop, but they have the best selection of Russian books, DVDs, and CDs in one place. There is also a large selection of overpriced Russian gifts, but there are a few good bargains to be had. Be sure to check out the children's section of the store, which has wonderful, high quality Russian children's books and puzzles. If you're looking for a singing Cheburashka, this is your store!

A doll-lover's paradise! Floor after floor of enticing products and adorable displays. Don't forget to check out the historical character section, where each doll has a full-sized diorama that lets you pick into one of many different historical periods. If you are going to spend some time shopping, make a free personal shopping appointment. The personal shoppers will help you find exactly what you want and create a special experience tailored especially for you. Sharon D. and Robyn are my favorites. Other reviewers keep saying that the dolls at American Girl are expensive- but they're heirloom quality items. A similar doll from Target will have matted hair within a week, but American Girl uses high quality materials. Friends have dolls who are over twenty years old and still in excellent condition.

Clean, with delicious, fresh produce! Stop going to Met and definitely skip Trade Fair (particularly because of the latter's labor dispute) when you need fresh fruit or veggies. Lemon Farm is a great source for Kinder Surprise eggs, though they recently doubled in price. They also offer imported European Fanta- far superior to American Fanta in every way! The employees are nice and the shop kitten is a sweetling.

One of my favorite place to stop in Brighton Beach! The fried potatoes with mushrooms are excellent. The vareniki and pelmeni are delicious- you can even buy a bag of frozen ones to take home and make yourself. I always treat myself to a glass of cherry compote. Everything tastes delicious and is a wonderful reminder of a Russian childhood. The service can be slow- you need to be proactive about getting your cheque- but it's all worth it. Yum!

Really fun decor- but the music is a bit loud. The deep fried mushroom sandwich is to die for, though the burgers are excellent too. Unfortunately, you'll pay through the nose for a can of soda and the food is salty enough that it's hard to get away without buying one. It's the mushroom sandwich that keeps me coming back, so don't miss it!
